COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS
[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS She said in her Greek tongue before turning in her booted heels and made her way to the door. Quietly she entered, eyes of ice blue quickly taking in lavish looking setting of brightly colored fabrics and textures as well as the lanterns and candles. Already Danae could feel the rush of warmth wrap itself around her and the scents that floated within the air were absolutely intoxicating. It was a fine establishment indeed and she continued to enjoy it as she began to remove the layers of furs and cloaks, looking for a place to hang them.[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID, my friend.`` He greeted, his voice thickly accented though pronounced in that Arabic dialect. Boot heels tapped softly against the wooden floor that had been covered in a few large rugs.
``This is quite an unexpected visit, but welcomed all the same.`` And taking her cloak from her, the Arab carefully draped it over the back of the nearest chair.
``What can I do for you today, Danae?`` Aman-ud-Din inquired, turning back around to face the lady ranger.[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS The woman ranger replied as her eyes continued to take notice of even the smallest of details within her surroundings.
"I might even find some things of use while here." She teased as she glanced about and then looked back to him with the continuous smile.[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID He replied, hands clasping together behind his back. On the the floor and upon the various tables along the wall were the lanterns, rolled rugs, and other merchandise that came from the Middle that he now sold. Behind the counter along the back wall were shelves with small jars of spices and other natural ingredients placed upon them.
``Would you like a cup of tea or coffee? I am sorry, but since I do not consume many of the drinks the people here do, you will not find your precious rum or whiskey here.`` He teased, smirking a bit.
``And what things of use are you considering, Danae? Perhaps I might have what you seek here.``[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS A few more idle steps were made, taking a closer look at the lanterns, rugs and then the bottled spices along the back wall.
"I came to see if anyone here had a supply of coca leaves. Or perhaps something just as good to help the aches within my head. It seems I'm getting them more often..." No, there was no need of slaves for any cuts, grazes or wounds this time. Only something to ingest so her head could be relieved of the frequent pain that came lately. Oddly enough, they only came when she neared the thick woods or forest. Danae of course thinking it was perhaps something she was breathing in that could be causing this. If that were the case, why was it here to and not only in Avaria? Perhaps there was something more to all of this, that in time it would all be revealed.[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID He warned, just in case she did not have coffee before. He did not want her to say he did not warn her after all! Now, about the pains in her head. Hmm.
``Now, to do something for the pains in your head..`` He whispered, almost to himself before he slipped back into the front to browse his stock. Pulling out a small jar of anise and chamomile, He returned and handed the two jars to Danae.
``These seeds are anise, they should help sooth your headaches. Steep about a handful of these in hot water for about ten minutes, and then strain the seeds out and drink the tea. Now this is chamomile, it will sooth the body. Take a very thin piece of cloth and place about a spoonful within it. Then, secure the bag to fashion a tea bag and place this in warm water as well. Though a word of caught, it shall make you drowsy.`` He said, smiling softly before offering her a place to sit on one of the cushions that ringed the room.[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS She teased as the cup was brought back to full lips once more. Enjoying the coffee very much and finding it not only tasteful but soothing from the inside out. She sat the cup aside, leaving the coins where they were for the moment and allowed her head to tilt with a curious expression on her face.
"The other night at the Briar Rose Inn, I had wanted to ask you something, but was not sure how to." She then said. Her hands reached out, taking up one of his own and while one held it gently the other flexed a couple fingers to point out the markings.
"These symbols... what are they and do they have meanings?"[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID Came his reply as he smiled. Aman-ud-Din watched Danae drink the coffee, taking that as a sign that she was enjoying it, which was something any host could be proud of. Reaching for the pot once more, he poured himself a cup of coffee to enjoy along with her. Dark eyes turned back to the Greek as he leaned back, taking a careful sip of the coffee. A question? Eyes drifted down to her hand as she took his and inquired about the strange markings. It was not the first time he had been asked such, nor would it be the last. Instead, he lowered the coffee cup and smiled still.
``They are the marks that all men who serve as the Sultan of Pern's bodyguards. However, how many markings a man has is indication of his position. I was his personal and closest bodyguard. These upon the backs of my hands are indication of such. One, which I guard well, is a bond that the Sultan and I share from many years ago. I was not always a soldier for Pern, Danae. Once, when I was very young, I was born into a Bedouin tribe. A camel herder, and along with my brother, guardian of the well. Watch, to an Arab, is more precious than silk or gold. Many thieves who dare steal water without permission is punishable by death. But, one day the caravan with the young prince passed by and was attacked. We helped the young prince, and as payment, my brother and I were given the chance to serve him in the city of Pern. That prince became the Sultan I serve, who I devoted my life and many years to.`` He replied softly, staring at the symbols on the back of his hand. There was a leather cuff bracer around his right wrist, a cuff that hid the last of his inked markings, the secret symbol that only he and the Sultain shared.[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS Said with a slightly firm nod.
"Which you wear very well." Added with a smile. Her hand released his and lifted to occupy the space between them, fingers again indicating to the symbols.
"And those upon your face, they are the same...Yes? " She asked, as she l lowered her hand to again take up her coffee. Danae was enjoying her visit with Aman-ud-Din and the fact she was learning more about him only seem to make it all the more interesting. She suddenly realized of her forwardness in the taking of his hand apologized.
"I did not mean to be so bold when taking your hand without asking first. I often forget that others are not use to my... forwardness." It was this forwardness that Danae possessed that seem to make many steer clear of her, sometimes giving off the impression she was un approachable. Those people who thought such couldn't be more wrong. It was only in times of intense feelings brought on by different things that made it difficult at times, but not entirely.[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID He replied. But when she apologized, Aman-ud-Din simply shook his head and waved his hand to instantly pardon her.
``You need not seek forgiveness, Danae, I am very use to such. After all, Anulia might be just as forward as you. She seems to have a fondness for human touch, part of her nature. I take no offense to it.`` The taking of the hand was not something that he would consider wrong. Even Tahirah grabbed his hand or leg when she so pleased.
``Many people here seem to ask for privacy...but yet there are many contradictions they perform. I keep my lips sealed for I do not need more reason to become a subject of distaste for more than I already am.`` His appearance was enough to be a discomfort to some, he did not need further prejudices from people.[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS She had come across many with such reasons but the most recent had then that of Maahes. It had been hard for her to understand why in the beginning but now knowing the exact details she could not blame him. There seem to be the slightest bit of increased color in her cheeks; could that have been a blush? Danae blushing? Nonsense! However, when the Arab then spoke of him being thought of as a subject of distaste, both brows arched as if surprised to hear such.
"I find that very hard to believe Aman, you are a very kind man. You do not do any harm to others without reason and are what I find a very pleasant person to be around." Danae would say as the facial features across her face seem to show a genuine admiration for her friend.[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID He replied, but compliments he did not receive often, which made him press his lips together and his smile turn almost sheepish.
``Well, my friend, I am glad that you find my company pleasant. I have limited friends, but each one I cherish greatly, for I do not know if many understand just how difficult it is for an Arab to have friends in the European world.``[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS Danae had some idea of what the Arab went through, she too was of dark skin and often stared at. Though, it didn't seem to bother her as much. She remembered walking down the streets once with someone who at the time was dear to her. A pair of people stared at her as they neared and once close enough; Danae snorted up a large amount of mucus and spat it on the ground nearby. This of course made the already doubtful people flinch and Danae found it to be funny. Not only because of her appearance but because she was a female and was suppose to act like a Lady. Danae enjoyed proving others wrong as long as it was harmless.
"I do understand... to an extent. I mean... look at me... I am of dark skin, I am also a woman and in most places expected to dress less like a man and more like a Lady. But for those that know me, understand I am the way I am because of how I was raised and by whom. It was my choice to become the woman I was then am now and will become. If they do not wish to learn more about me and understand me, then I think it is their loss. Not mine." She said with a soft smile.[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID He answered. But anyone who had deeper tones in their skin would be stared at or looked upon. Aman-ud-Din was a prime target not only because of his flesh, but the markings upon his face, the keen features, and thick accent of his homelands--not to mention the traditional garbs he wore. But were certainly different here. They took on occupations that would have otherwise been forbidden in his home. It was an interesting concept to see and understand. But he agreed with her and smiled.
``Indeed, my friend. In Pern, you would never see a common woman wearing what you do. But then, I too am learning about cutures not of my own. I do know, however, that those of Greek heritage have quite the strong wills, near as fiery as Salah al Din.`` Aman-ud-Din mused to himself.
``But, it is as you say, to thine own self be true.``[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS She asked teasingly with a smirk.
"And yes, I agree... each man makes his choice to be whom he thinks he should be and it is not up to others to judge him for such because he simply dresses or looks differently than ourselves."[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID He replied, honestly. Danae did not see in blinded views, nor was her scope narrowed. He could only hope she would continue to make wise choices in her life that would serve her well and maintain her peace and happiness.[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS She shared as she glanced down into the coffee in her cup.
"I suppose I should also be thanking my brother and my father more, for instilling in me the things that have carried me this far in life. Both were good men." Danae added, the tone in her voice growing softer at the mention of such important people. She missed them a great deal and often wished they were here to help her in this difficult times.[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID He commented, unsure if he should breech the question about her father and brother, already noticing that it was a sensitive topic for her. Some did not wish to speak about things that were close to their heart.[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS She said as the smile seem to grow a little more until it seem to reach her eyes.[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID He answered, glad to see a smile instead of a somber expression upon the ranger's face.
``You have a beautiful smile, Danae. In these days of coming gloom, a bit of earthly light is needed. I pray you do not cast aside that smile too quickly or place it far out of reach. Even a smile can be the ray of hope many silently seek.`` And that he meant.[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS A soft look over came her face. He seemed worried? Even though she was good at reading people by their facial expressions or how they carried themselves, there were times Danae would find doubt in her ability of reading people correctly. Particularly those she did not know as well or those they were very skilled in wearing the many masks and disguises. Her arm came to rest on her knee as she awaited a reply. Hoping she hadn't done or said anything that would be upsetting.[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID He asked, knowing that sometimes he spoke more than what people perhaps wanted to hear and tried not to seem as if he was preaching or enjoyed lecturing.[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS She replied back chuckling.
"I assure you if you were to bore me as you say with your idle prattle.. I think I'd be very willing to let you know. After all, I am Greek..." She teased as an arch of a single brow was made and she smirked while bringing the cup up for the last of her coffee.[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID Which was not far from the truth. It was difficult to guess.
``I am glad you like the coffee. An Arabian delight that best compliments a good smoke.`` And with that, he laughed a bit.
``And, coffee does not make the legs turn to water or cloud the mind.`` Aman-ud-Din added with a grin.[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS She sat the now empty cup on the low table they sat near.
"I did enjoy the coffee, very much. But I am afraid I will have to try the smoking another time. Unfortunately it grows late and I must be on my way. My men will worry about me and leave no stone unturned to find me." She then moved to stand to her feet, running her hands across her clothing to help the adjusting of them. A hand coming to the dagger at her hip, it belonged to her brother, as well as the red sash that dangled from her belt that once belonged to her father. It was a symbol that he had once been a Talon along beside Apollo. Perhaps a story to share the next time she and Aman-ud-Din visited with each other. She then had to nod and laugh a little with him.
"It is potent stuff.." Speaking on the alcohol.[/ul]
SIR AMAN-UD-DIN SAYYID He replied, and when she stood, the tall Arab did as well, rising to his feet as well, the joints popping softly with the movement. It bothered him not.
``Yes, potent enough to change the mindset of a man.`` Moving to the curtain, he pulled it back for her and once both were back into the front room, Aman-ud-Din moved to the chair to retrieve her cloak of fur. Holding it out for her to take, the soft smile remained on his lips.
``Assalaam alaikum, my friend, for in these days there is much danger about. May your journey and path be safe. Maasalaamah. Until we next meet again, Danae.``[/ul]
COMMANDER DANAE GALANOS She said chuckling. She then bent to gather the jars of herbs and moved through the curtain he had pulled back. Once they were were back in the front room, Aman-ud-din handed her fur cloak. With the jars tucked in one arm, she took her cloak and wrapped it about her form. The smile was returned before lips parted and she spoke.
"Assalaam alaikum to you as as well Aman. I've enjoyed this visit, look forward to the next and hope there are many more to follow." She offered her free hand out to him in her parting. If taken, a good firm but friendly had shake was given. After he had been released, she'd turn and exit out of his shop and home. Returning to the cold chill that blew across her form as she made her way back to Majesty. Once there, the jars were placed in her travel satchel, gloves were placed back on her hands and she mounted. Off into the city she rode, gathering up her men and heading back to Red Wall. By the time she was gone, she was sure Aman would find she had left those coins anyway, and right about then, she would of course be grinning to herself.[/ul]
