Sleat home of the clan "MacDonald of Sleat". The name comes from Sléibhte, Scottish Gaelic for a plain, which well describes Sleat when considered in the surrounding context of the mainland, Skye and Rum mountains which all dominate the horizon all about Sleat. The church at Kilmore is said to have been built by a priest called Crotach MacGille Gorm who was a canon of Beauly Abbey. It is believed that the site of Kilmore Church was a place of pagan worship before the Christian era. Armadale Scottish Gaelic is Armadail, is a village on the Sleat Peninsula of the Isle. Like most of Sleat, but unlike most of Skye, the area is fairly fertile, and though there are hills, most do not reach a great height. It looks out over the Sound of Sleat, to Morar and Mallaig. Clan MacGregor has Dunsgateich Castle which is surrounded by large gardens. The burgh has a small port, and has a regular ships in and out its small piers.	0	0	No posts have been made on this board.
