The day was chill as winter arrived with the fierceness of a lion hunting its prey. Pulling her cloak about her she walked down the street looking up she saw the church looming before her beckoning to her soul ... slowly she walked closer until she stood before the Holy realm of the Lord God almighty.
On legs that trembled she climbed the stairs and entered. A peacefulness surrounded her as she walked up the aisle and a memory of her last time within holy walls came to her. She was between her parents as they took their seats and prayed.
Finding an pew that was somewhere in the middle of the large and ornate church she knelt and bowed her head and began to pray. " Dear heavenly father, Lord of all guide me in what I mus do. Be merciful and shed your great light on me as I wonder through this life. I feel so lost and alone...my parents sit with you in heaven. I miss them, and in my own grief I have not been a dutiful child of Christ. Forgive me for this as I will do my best to be worthy of your graces." she prayed softly. Her words seemed so loud within these walls even to her. Tears welled in deep blue eyes as she continued with a litany of what she felt were her sins and shortcomings.
If any were there she did not seem to notice lost as she was in prayer, " Holy father grant me the strength to go on and keep my heart open to your light. Give me courage and wisdom to choose the correct path. I now more than ever need you to stand strong within my heart, for I feel like all is lost." she whispered and choke on the tears tightening her throat.
She had no idea how long she had been kneeling in prayer and her knees were sore but she prayed on. Purging her soul and mind to the only one she felt she could trust right now... God himself. " I ask this in your Son's name.... Amen." she crossed herself and stood slowly. A large man had come into the church and watched as she prayed. With a nod he positioned himself between her and the doors. " About bloody time" he hissed softly to himself. " Patrick will be pleased when I arrive with her."
He waited patiently and when she stood his behind a column and as she passed grabbed her. " Gotcha wench, ye be a hard one to get, I swear. Patrick will be most pleased indeed." "Who is Patrick and what does he want with me?" her voice filled with fear. " Ye will see soon enough." She struggled to get free and was rewarded with large handed connecting with her face, the walls wavered and the room spun,..... she faltered and as she fell he caught her and left the church with her in his arms.
With one quick look behind him seeing the Priest he smiled and left the church, Katerina slumped in his arms. The only thing that proved she had been there was the piece of MacKinnon plaid she wore torn and laying on the floor of the church.
