Maahes - “Ahtaju..tabbeban…arjuu-ka..arjuu-ka…” His voice was a raspy sigh as he begged for a healer, the healing touch of any whom would set him right; to make this feeling go away-to chase away the burning cold. “Ada'tu tareeqi.”
Healer - “M'lord I can not understand you..English please.” The nurse sighed as she replaced the cool cloth on his forehead. Seconds would run by and the fabric would be warm. “His fever will kill him..” The woman's hand brushed over the bare chest of the animal, and felt the African drums beat under her palm, “and his heart rate is still very high…This would go so much better if he were calm..” She spoke to the man opposite of her who held down the Beast. Though the Arab was not thrashing about as before, memories of the poison still plagued many of their minds, and none wished to be on the receiving end of such a fist. However the man was not needed as the body of the General lay trembling with a chill that was simply inside his mind.
Healer 2 -“What would you have me do?” The aid asked the nurse as he met her eyes.
Healer - “Go to the tavern, find that..dirty girl, Anulia. She speaks this language correct? Perhaps she'll be of some service.” Was all the Jungle beauty was good for right? Or so the woman mused to herself, the perfectly painted lines of her face contorting into a frown. What would she have to do to get her hands clean after this? Pressing back a matted curl from the moist temple of the General she wrung out the cloth and replaced it soon after.
“Go quickly.” Her eyes rose to the rest, "Now help me strip him down."
Healer 2 -With that the man shot out into the night, into the confines of the Briar Rose, and moved in secrecy to whisper into the ear of the Tendress. The entire event of his arrival home had been in secrecy, and this was not going to change.
“M'lady Tenderess,” Unsure of what to call her, the man trembled in her presence. What a wild woman this was before him, and how even her eyes made him shake..such untouched beauty. “You are needed in the infirmary..The Lord General will not speak English. He's crazy with a fever again." A bold faced lie, they were just all cowards Maahes for once was too sick to fight back, and could easily be seen had they given it a chance. Though there was little panic in the man's voice, the worry was there. However, Maahes was as stubborn fool they all knew that.
Anulia - Days and nights seemed to blend together, creating the time of a life when you could not keep count of how many days you had preformed the same thing over and over. Not that a soul like Anulia ever did mind repeating herself in her duties. It was how a memory was triggered and how, you never forgot things that your body remembers so clearly. Over the span of the time that Maahes and others had been gone, his and Anulia's home had been finished. Anulia had not wanted to venture there without him, even though he had asked her to stay with him, but Anulia was ever curious about it and had ended up asking for someone to show her the way once more. An escort of some kind was always taken, be it man, woman or Komor; her loving male elephant. To see the home's glory and the design she could never have dreamt of, was beyond words. Perhaps only Anulia would have ran through the home, testing every sliding door, pressing a hand against every wall gently, even though made of a material she was unsure of. Parchment perhaps? Where had the idea for this home came from? A dream? Traveling? Anulia had many questions in her mind, but no one there to answer them.
Unable to resist the beauty and freedom of the home, Anulia began to venture there more often, loving the quietness of it and how wildlife still roamed close by. Maahes had even built a place for Komor, that was so large, four more Komor's could have fit inside to sleep. It touched Anulia's heart deeply that Maahes would remember and think of such things when designing their new home. Many nights she was able to sing Komor to sleep and lay just outside of his stable so he could still touch her. Anulia could never try to explain the bonds she felt to animals, so she stopped trying when curious men and women asked. The solitude of the lands, was cherished, but would not last long.
Komor had stayed behind that night and remained in his stable to eat and be happy and content with himself and his own room while Anulia made her way to the Briar Rose to work for a few hours. Coin was still needed and she enjoyed the fact that she earned it with hard work and skills she had learned since becoming free again. It was not such a busy night that when a male came a whispering into her ear, she could not hear him. Chocolate eyes looked to the male, seeing him nervous and unsure perhaps what this news would mean. Without thinking, Anulia reached out to touch the male's arm, gently pressing her fingers and palm over the material that covered it. He jumped and Anulia smiled softly. `` Calm. I will come at once. Thank you for your message. `` Moving to Rose with a quickened pace, she explained what she could and Rose allowed her to leave, so that within the night, the two headed back to the healing hall and to Maahes, her lion.
Dressed in the soothing materials of a cotton ivory tunic and a cotton tan skirt that flowed around her muscular legs, she blended in slightly more with the folk about here, yet her braids and skin showed through the light material, making it stand out more then it would have on one of the paler skinned people. With hurry, she was taken to Maahes, only to see the massive male laying on his back with a woman dabbing his forehead and chest. Anulia had seen this a few times with Maahes, but that did not make it any easier to witness. The last time, he had died and Lady Aislin had brought him back, yanking his spirit down and slamming it back into him before holding it there. Or that was how Anulia saw it. Moving to Maahes, she was quick to grasp a large hand and wrap both her extremely smaller ones around it. Even then, her hands could not fully cover his own, for she lacked in size, but made up in softness. `` Maahes? It is Anulia. Do you know my words? `` Could Maahes speak many words of different lands? Which would he speak now. As Anulia's heart twisted, she wanted to frown, but sometimes when you were dying, a smile was more treasured so a soft one was given to him, wanting to comfort him. Her touch was warm, but would it burn him?
Maahes - There was a breaking point for everyone, and had he control over his body never would he allow Anulia to see him like this. This state of being, this mind set, it was not his own. He was weak. He was like a child; A child that clung to her hands with the curl of his fingers, and a child that wanted to be held. He wanted this feeling to go away-this feeling inside. Where once was happiness was now just..crazy. Maahes's life had calmed, found purpose and reason.
Healer - “You have come too late, he has stopped talking.” The woman sneered, as she watched the two together with her rise, “but you can take over for me.” The blank minds of the rest cast aside what they did not understand. They took what was before them for granted, and instead of extending her hand and making an acquaintance the woman turned for the door. Stopping to the nurses posted at the door, she dipped her head.
“If anything is to change, find me. We will pray to our Christian God that the fever breaks, but I have my doubts.” With that the door closed, and the smaller petite frame of one nurse came to stand beside the bed. A moment of silence rest then around the room until her gentle voice rang out.
Healer 3 -“ I am sure he will be alright. ” The quiet voice carried a smile, much like Anulia's she could lift the spirits with just one word, and in many ways spoke her apologies for the other woman's rudeness. “ and look..” Kneeling beside the bed she motioned to their holding hands. “ He's got you.” Meaning he's holding her hand. Like always right? He would always be there. Should the tables be turned, not once would he leave her bedside. The woman tucked the sheets back around his hips to clean up the bed, and would soon replace the rags when needed.
“ I'll just be outside the door should ye' need anything ok?” Not waiting for an answer she shuffled through the room, and passed through the doorframe. It was then the world went silent, and all the prayers of Gods could start. In his dreams he could hear her, the voice of his mother..God..heaven-Anulia, and he wanted more.
Maahes - “Na ' Am Afhamu …” (Yes I understand) His voice whispered in return as eyes slowly parted to reveal the yellowed amber, weak and red. “Sautak jamil…” (Your voice is beautiful) The exposed flesh of his skin chilled, and his chest rose and fell harshly with each breath. Though the fever quickly dropped, it would weave him in and out of dreams. Was he having another?
“I..” The sound was so labored, and quiet even for him. “Married... her.” Though his face remained forward he turned his eye tried to look at her, meet her eyes. See the reaction as if he worried she would turn away from him. His fingers curled tightly around her own, the strength still there..see, he was stubborn after all. In his sickness he worried of her. Worried that this would hurt her, and he would be without her by his side. Not only now, but forever. He had dreamed of their home, and made it a reality. Where his future was concerned Anulia was part of it.
