This post is of a violence and graphic nature. Please do not read if you are under age or do not like the decription of blood and gore nor that of children involved.
Her dreams were erratic that nigh. Slides, pieces from her past that blended and blurred together. Caleb taking her sword, saying swords were for men. The black eyes she gave him. The screaming match she had with her parents. The first time innocent blood touched her hands. The cry of a baby. The crack of the whip and the pain that ripped through her backside with a blood curtailing scream.
Ealora awoke inhaling a deep sharp breath as she sat up within the bunk of her cabin. The open window blew in a fresh scent of salty air, comforting just like the air that touched at a sweaty brow and cooled the burning skin of her forehead. She let out a humming moan as she wiped the sweat from her brow.
The door burst open and Taylor paused a step within the door. His eyes wide. It was not the surprise at seeing her awake from a nightmare, he had waken her from them before. It was that she was sitting up within the bunk, the blanket having fallen away to reveal her naked form from the waist up. She had never been one for modesty but he hadn't expected that!
"Captain Daniel's ship has been spotted Cap'n. Dead ahead"He spoke before retreating as fast as his feet could carry him, closing the door behind himself.
Ealora had felt the spark before, the burn of her skin in anticipation of what was to come, the smell of battle that seemed to linger on the air. Sweeping the sheet back, she hopped out of bed to dress. The brown slacks were pulled on without a moments pause and the leather vest next, left open as she gathered her belt and fitted it to her hip. Her head dipped left and right looking for the Sai's to fit into the belts sheaths on either side of her hips as fingers numbly worked to close the buttons of the best. Her movements were quick but everything seemed to take so long, as if time slowed down. She sat upon the edge of the bunk to pull her boots on, tucking her pant legs into their depths before lifting off the bed and crossing to her desk where the Sai's gleamed, as if waiting, knowing well they would be bloodstained soon. Turning upon her heels, she headed for the door. It too seemed to take forever, each step took more then two breaths from her. It was not fear that gripped her, only a heightened sense of things. The wood creaking beneath boots that thumped like lead had been weighted to them. The creak of the door as it swung open, the salty air hitting her face and filling her nostrils. The men were preparing for battle, all eyes turned when she emerged from her cabin.
"Ready the guns" She spoke smoothly though her insides were shaking, not in fear, in anticipation.
The movement of the men were of a blur to her. She saw them without really seeing them. Trusted their actions for if one flaw was made, all would fail. Steps carried her to the helm but turned to look over the railing as they approached the other ship.
"Steady as you go Taylor. Beng, wait to raise the flag"She spoke without watching the second man whose arm was posed on the rope to raise their signature flag.
Fingers gripped the railing. The blood thundered through her veins, pumping in time with the beat of her heart which rose with each passing minute that they drew closer. Celadon eyes never wavered from the ship. So close.
"Captain?" Came the voice of her second.
"Hold" She replied. Waiting.
The ship began to turn and a smile began to creep over Ealora's lips. As the ship turned, she could see their flag raising. They meant to attack her, probably thought they were a merchant ship, or a ship of passangers to be plundered as slaves. Their mistake.
"Captain!" Came the urgent voice of her second again.
"HOLD!"She fairly growled at him in return. Each second was sweet agony. She was going to enjoy ever millisecond of it.
The ship closed in. Bouncing upon the waves, fighting to reach its target. A fight they were going to get. As the stern began to creep closer, Ealora head jerked towards Taylor at the helm and Beng at the flag.
"Let go the helm, Beng raise the flag!"
Taylor released the helm letting the wheel spin as the bow tipped down into the water then turned, directing the ship away from the other but also pointing the cannons towards their target. The flag was raised, kicking within the wind, tempting.
"Fire all and prepare to board!"Came her call to the men.
The boom was resounding. Like a sweet melody to her ears that also hurt. The splinter of wood meant the target had been reached except for the splash were others had missed. The call went out, a growl of men from both sides. Another boom meant the return fire had been ordered and the Shadow took the beating gracefully as the railing upon one side and the floor of the deck took the metal ball. She ducked as the wood splintered and was tossed within the air at the force of impact.
"Board now!" She called and the call was echoed by the first and second at her side as they climbed the railing.
A sight to behold, the line of men and the woman climbing upon the rail to be greeted by another ship of sword brandishing pirates. The plank went down for those unable to get a spot on the rail. There was only a few precious moments of peace before pirate and pirate met aboard the Saint Lucas. Using the rope handed to her, Ealora swung with all the force she could muster. Right into the heap of battle she landed and pulled the Sai's from their rest.
She let out an animalistic growl as she sliced into an oncoming man. He had no face. They never did, not until death. The man let out a scream as the Sai ripped through his stomach. Blur. The men blurred around her, each engaged with another from the other side. Celadon eyes swept through the fighting bodies to find the one she had been seeking for ages.
Captain Daniel's was a pirate of all the lore. He had lost one eye in a battle of youth and wore a patch to cover the gaping hole. He was also a man that wore all black except for a red sash upon which earrings had been fashioned, each belonging to victims he had slaughtered. He had thought the attack on the approaching ship would of been easy. Till the flag went up, Pirate. Another pirate was going to attack him. It wasn't until the cannons had released did he realize just WHO was attacking him. Damnable wench, he should of killed her when he was aboard the Majesty as first mate. Nothing but trouble! He had stayed safely at the helm until the enemy had begun to board. The battle in sued and still the Captain waited.
Ealora spotted the Captain at the helm just as a pair of arms wrapped around her from behind as another advanced her front. Gritting her teeth, she threw her body back upon her capture from behind as she kicked out at the pirate in front of her. Her kick hit the man upon his chest and he stumbled back with a yelp even as the arms around her loosened. Spinning the Sai's within her hands, she stabbed backward into an unknown stomach before whirling around to slash at an exposed throat. Kicking out, she kicked the defeated body to the ground before turning around to face the pirate who had regained his composure from the kick. She lashed out with a sai and was meet with the blunt end of a sword. The man laughed and she grinned. A turn of her hand and the two weapons sang as they were forced away from one another. A body flashed before her eyes. The backside of a friend.
"Cap'n, Go!" Came Sam's reply as he engaged the pirates attention away from her.
There were only four steps till she reached the helm but she hit them only once before bounding onto the deck. Captain Daniel's was a cruel looking man, his face scarred in more places then just his covered eye. He gave her a near toothless grin as she approached, her weapons flaring before him.
"Come to kill me mutt. I taught ye te fight."Came the deep and roguish voice as he pulled the sword from its sheath at his side.
"I've learned some new tricks since then Marcus."Came her reply as she gave him a cruel smile.
Pain ripped through her backside and Ealora let out a yelp of surprise before whirling around to seek her attacker from behind. The surprise that registered on her face had the woman standing opposite her chuckling in amusement. the woman was as beautiful as she was deadly, long blonde hair was swaying within the wind and the flash of pearly white teeth set the peach color of her skin to glow. If she had not been a heartless bytch, Ealora would of thought the woman beautiful indeed.
"Thought you killed me did you? Burnt my ship into the sea but oh no, I was not going down easily. I've waited many months to shed your blood Malory." Came the sweet sugar caned voice of the woman.
"Evil never dies does it Vola?" Ealora sneered in reply.
Her attention and surprise cost her as a sharp pain ripped through her arm and Ealora let out another yelp as her head swung in time to see the tip of Captain Daniel's blade swinging away from her arm. Her attentions were not so dulled by the pain as it was pushed away. Vola having seen an opening, advanced. Ealora swung around to throw the blunt end of her Sai and fist into the woman's face before throwing a kick into her stomach. Daniel's at her back, she swung around to swipe the end of her weapon at his stomach. The man jumped back in surprise before swinging the sword at her head. She rolled, throwing her body to the ground to escape the beheading before rolling to her feet in time for the Captain to advance once more. The tip of the sword blurred as it was thrust downward between the bridge of her nose. Ealora threw her back to the ground to escape the new attack. A booted foot was thrust into her side as the sword missed its mark and Ealora let out a gargled scream as she curled into the kick, forcing herself onto her hands and knees. Another kick and her body jerked with the upward thrust of the foot into her gut. She let out another scream as her teeth gritted in anger. She gasped the foot before it could retreat and yanked for all she was worth pulling the body of the Captain to the ground. Lifting up onto her knees and gripping the Sai's within her hand. A fiery gaze fell to the Captain who's eyes were wide in terror.
A smile crept to her lips, cruel and unforgiving. The world went suddenly canteyed as a fist was thrown across her face sending her flying back to the deck. Her grip loosened, the Sai's flying. Her head spinning, she watched the two Captains advancing as if four. A moan passed her lips as she let her head hit the wood beneath it. The swing of a sword and her feet came up to capture the blade between her boots. Another swing and she thrust her hips sideways, making the blade between her feet deflect the other. Thrusting her feet upward, she threw the sword from between her feet. One boot sank between a bare of legs and the groan and drop of a body to the deck and she knew she had hit her mark. Vola advanced again, swinging once more upon the mutt. Ealora foot raised to deflect the blade as her other kicked out at Vola knee. The woman collapsed in a howl of pain. Rolling to her feet, her back screamed in pain and she could feel the blood staining the clothing at her back and creeping down her arm. Captain Daniel's clasped his groined in pain muttering obscene words in direct while Vola clasped at a broken knee. Two two had fallen not far from one another. Collecting her Sai's from the ground, she felt the presence at her back and turned, unthinking and thrusting the end of the sigh deep within the chest of her attacker. Captain Daniel's let out a gasp of surprise and pain. His mouth hanging open, his arm raised, sword posed for the strike.
"Tell your fellows in hell I said hello"Ealora bared her teeth to the dying man as she twisted the blade making the man gargle and spit blood upon his chin and upon her cheek. Pulling the blade from the mans chest, she let his body fall away from her, passing it without a second thought.
Vola clutched at her knee as sky blue eyes lifted to the woman. Fright was evident in her eyes. She didn't want to die.
"You stole my husband from me. I was only trying to get him back."She pleaded.
"By planning to sell me into slavery? no I don't think so." Came Ealora unforgiving reply.
The sound of battle had died. Taylor and Sam had appeared on deck and hailed a yelping Vola to her feet. The surprise at seeing her there was evident even on their blood and sweat stained faces. Sam's cheek was gapping open and bleeding but he appeared to be none the worse for wear. Taylor seemed to be a bit more in need of a doctor. He clasped his one free hand to his stomach which was soaking with blood. Two fingers were missing from the hand.
"Ow. You stupid bytch! I would of killed you had Benjamin let me! I would have had you not escaped no matter what he said."Vola had spouted seeing her pleading hadn't worked. Her anger was plain.
"What do you want to do with her Cap'n?"Came Taylor pained question. He was clearly hurting.
Ealora turned her eyes away from the woman. The bodies littered the lower deck. Most were Daniel's men, some where hers. Good men, they hadn't deserved this.
"Hey Ealora. I pushed her, I made her fall into your blade. You took something from me, I took something from you. Your brothers love huh? He hates you now doesn't he? Took an innocent life, his wife's. Innocent blood on your hands. Your bound for hell now, hmm?"Vola words were like poison on her ears. Ealora turned. Celadon eyes lit with fire as she advanced on the woman. Her Sai posed at the woman's stomach.
"I'm going to kill your husband Vola, I'm going to take all the pleasure I can from watching the life drain from his face. and I'm going to let you live with that knowledge. Hell, maybe I'll even bring you along, tie you up and let you watch" Ealora voice had become ice, cold and slicing. She took a step back and turned to look at her men still alive and awaiting orders.
"Take our fallen back to the ship for a proper buriel. Then burn this hellhole. Give it back to the sea." She didn't need to watch to know it would be carried out.
"An eye for an eye then Ealora. Your going to kill my husband, then I might as well tell you..."Vola words poked at her backside.
"I murdered your son.."
The words hit her like a ton of bricks. Like a hot poker through her heart. Ealora turned, the fire raging within her face. Vola grinned in triumph.
"You don't think I'd let that bastard live. The son of my husband and his mutt.Oh no, I tracked him down, Does it pain you to know that the mommy he cried for wasn't you when he died?"
She had moved before she knew she had. Grasping the woman's shirt within her own. The rage uncontrollable, she threw the woman as far as she would go.
Vola flew like a rag doll into the railing and over it to the lower deck. The woman screamed in pain as she hit the deck and lay there. Taylor and Sam had moved to grasp Ealora, knowing well the woman deserved to die but also knowing Ealora would kill someone else in her rage. She easily threw the two men off her as she advanced to the lower deck and the woman lying there.
"Tie her to the mast" Her voice shook in rage.
"Ealora..."Came the gruff voice of her first.
"Tie her to the mast! I won't say it again!"Her voice rose in command and anger. Her body shuddering, racked in pain and anger that could not be contained.
Vola was hauled to her feet by Sam and some of the men, Taylor having disappeared aboard the Shadow. Vola, cursing and screaming in pain was thrown against the mast and tied as ordered with the body of the men of the Saint Lucas who had been left there. The hiss of a lit torch passed her ear and Ealora turned to see one of her men carrying the torch. Reaching out, she plucked the torch from his hand.
"Back to the ship all who don't want to go down with this one."
She called as she stood before Vola. The woman was sneering at her, baiting her. Obviously she did not think Ealora would do what she was planning on doing. She stared at Vola, long and hard. There was no regret within her eyes, no regret within her soul as her fingers loosened and the torch dropped to the deck. The wood caught, sparked by the torch and Ealora stayed for as long as possible. When the fire increased, she retreated to the Shadow which had begun to slowly inch away from the rapidly burning ship.
There was no satisfaction in her as the screams of the burning ship and woman filled her ears. Her wounds were only twinges, the pain she felt was gut wrenching, deep within her heart, within her soul and she collapsed to her knees letting out a scream, the scream of a mother who's child was lost forever.
