Aslan Burning: High in the sky, a sun beat down across the bareback of training knights. Their skin was a live with the glow of the heat, and beads of sweat chased their spines. Over the course of Maahes's time, a small farming field became a pit for the truth behind defense. Battles would not be fought over cobblestone back, and the footmen would need to keep their balance. From the passing rains, the ground had become soft making the conditions as close to real as they could get. Men struggled with their balance, loosing track of the falling swords around them; their sparring partners taking full advantage of the time to shine. "KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!" The General would bark, his voice a deep growl mimicking the animal whose claw hung from around his neck extended on a strand of bone carved beads. The sounds of their struggles cried out against the edge of the city, as well Ironforge working in the distance. An army was being built from the ground up, but standing on a good solid foundation. Alika Windsor: Regret. That would be the first thought to enter her head. Regret for? For coming out in this heat in clothes too heavy for the weather to even consider being kind. While she did wear the traveling clothes out here, prim and proper certainly would not do, these clothes were still heat magnets. She cupped her hand over her eyes to at least shade them from the sun. What brought her out in this insane trek could be anyone's guess but she was getting dangerously close to the men who were fighting and still she approached that beast of a man general. But when she was intent on something it was rare that anyone could stop her, not Balian, this general, no one. And intent she was now, Insanely so it would seem at that.[d]
Aslan Burning: There was no shame in the Beast, though touch was forbidden he had nothing to hide. While the other men blushed at the sight of the woman, keeping their bodies down wind for fear she would inhale the scent of a spar. Maahes only turned to watch their new watcher. Bare arms were covered up to his elbows in mud, and long thick tendrils were peppered with the earth. Even his face had splatters of a dark substance, though if she drew closer it was a bit more...red. It was not uncommon for the wives of men to come and feast upon the sight. He knew all too well, that the women feared for their husbands. Would this new General get them killed? Though there had been only a few to question him the desire had been there. He was sure of it. Raised in an arena, he had learned hand to hand combat to be the most valued. No, a sword could be lost, and a man's last defense was there within the palms of a gift from God: hands. Amber colored orbs would roll for a moment at the sight of the woman, who he instantly charged with surveying what the "courts" would have to offer. It was what a woman was for right? (d
Alika Windsor: The sight and even smell of men covered in blood and gore, dirt and grime, all of it, was nothing new for Alika. She was well used to most of it by now though she left room for surprises always for just when she thought she'd seen every situation, something new happened to shock the hell out of her. Such was life she supposed. Now, having moved close enough she could almost guess this general was rolling his eyes at her but she said nothing over it, even if he had she would not allow herself to start off with a petty and pointless argument. "I would ask if this was a bad time for a word with you, but after last night and your lack of them I am going to guess any time for me to wish a word with you is going to be a bad time." She spoke with an edge to her voice, slightly raised for the obvious reasons of all the men fighting away out there then go silent to see if he would even grant her an answer in return or simply ignore her, as he had the night before when she tried to politely speak with him. [d]
Aslan Burning: A hand; a single motion was all it took to bring the entire field to a dead still. The silence penetrated like knives over the flesh of those who stilled, and her words would grant a few smirks from careless arrogant knights. All eyes would pass in the direction of their General, and the woman who spoke up. A few of the veterans tipped their swords in the earth and leaned on them with eager smiles--this was going to be good. Slow heavy steps crossed the distance between them as the sun sat behind his back, and soon she wouldn't have a need to shield her eyes from the sun. His shadow fell over the much smaller frame of the woman before him. "So speak." Like a good trained dog, he ordered her to bark, like most women do. Maahes's breath was heavy as his chest rose and fell, and under the stone surface one could hear a rattle of his baritone voice. (d
Alika Windsor: True enough, his shadow did offer some relief from the sun in her eyes and she lowered her hand to look at him, granted up at him, but straight on and evenly. Woman or not, she did not cower to any man. She would be polite, show respect where it was due but she was no weakling of a female either. "You train guards, correct?" Keeping her speaking calm, low, though if any of those males watching with such excited looks on their wanted to hear it'd not be a strain on them to do so. She was not so shy around people who she felt needed to be smacked around some, as she thought this man needed badly in all honest thought but she left room to be proven wrong as well. Another pause now, questions were kept short, if she had the wrong person so be it, he could give just as short an answer and she would be on her way after an apology for the interruption. [d]
Aslan Burning: The men here were not so used to a woman who did fight, after having a Duchess as they do it was desirable. All women he felt should be able to defend themselves. Many of the women in Skye were being taught as they spoke, after Maahes cleaned up a few men trying to attack anything with beauty. He had once even thought about expressing his desire for it to be mandatory, that all women trained for no less then a weeks time. So if she expected a laugh it was not given, or even dancing on the edge of his tongue. A single look turned his gaze with a squint to the men at his back, each looking like something out of a war, and as well what nightmares were made up. Turning then back to her he crossed heavy arms over a massive chest and squared his feet with his shoulders. "I do what I can." Though in fact there wasn't any one on this Isle that didn't want more for a person to learn his trade. Maahes didn't express much about himself, so in many ways fighting was the only form of communication he had. "but I do not go easy on you for your sex." Sneers of every type passed between vicious men, before they turned their attention back to the Beast. (d
Alika Windsor: She kept her gaze upon him alone, if she looked over all the faces of those men that she could see she may have lost some of her nerve and resolve to see this through. Determined she was, but she was still female and having a mass group of males giving her likely every look from contempt to possible torment could make her lose that determination, or at the greatest possibility, some of it. His words finally coming, again the grouping making every second seem a lifetime in passing. She nodded. "I would not ask for such." Words still came easily as long as her gaze remained steadfast on it's target. "I do thank you as well." Better to do it now while she meant it than later when she may very possibly having regretted ever coming out here to speak a single word to him. [d]
Aslan Burning: She would not be training with these men, but a much smaller group that met in the earlier hours of the day. At dawn the little troop of women and younger men met to have little sparring exorcises. She would start with the children if he had his way, but deep down he did not wish to her hurt her pride. However, Maahes could see that this woman didn't display half of what it took to stand with his army. Yet, maybe he'd be surprised. "I will see you at dawn, where the path meets the sand." Meaning the shores. He would let his arms fall to his sides, releasing the self made wall as he spoke. "Now, if you will excuse me. We do not have much time in the day left." How was that for manners? He would even dip his head just a little as if to signal the release of conversation. (d
Alika Windsor: She was stunned by him to be honest. The man had a kinder side to him, it had to be or he wouldn't have shown it in front of his men out of fear of loss of their respect, she assumed anyway. Keeping the chat to a minimum, it wasn't necessary so why do it? She nodded in return and after taking a few steps back, once she was away from him she turned to head back the way she had come. Now she had to set a few other things in motion so that would be the next to be worked over in her mind and then in her actions, if she actually got that far.
