A Discovery
Willa had spent several days at the Castle after the return from the diplomatic voyage. They had picnics, rode horses, surveyed the property Dmi owned, and all-in-all had a very good time together. Erin had chaperoned their visit from day one, until he took her back to her farm.
The day finally came when a messenger came and informed Lord Zurban of a crate off-loaded at the docks... one with his name upon it. Arrangements made, Erin made his way to the docks and received the crate for his Lordship.
The new Tapestry of Kyiv and the royal family of Kievan Rus arrived undamaged. Willa had ridden back with Erin to Zurban Castle after the crate arrived. Dmitrii was so pleased when she arrived… he could hardly wait to reveal it to her.
Later, he and Erin holding it up for Willa to see, Dmitrii smiled. “I want it right on that wall. Tis so barren… What do yu think my dear?” he asked the girl of his heart.
“Conjeshna… “ Erin piped in and agreed, then looked at Willa, his head bowed… “I am sorry M’Lady…” he said respectfully. "M'Lord has been alone for so long, tis hard to get use to you being around... yer presence, a pleasure though."
Then the two men began to hang it upon the wall, supervised by Willa. As Erin held it against the wall, Dmitrii began to hang the tapestry. As he pounded on the wall for the rod to hold the tapestry, the wooden wall cracked, causing Dmi to stumble off the chair.
Upon further investigation of the wall, tearing the cracked boards loose, Dmitrii found a hidden passageway behind it. A confused look upon his face, he orders Erin to fetch a torch… he wanted to find out the mystery that now revealed itself.
With torch in one hand, a dagger in the other, he entered the new found passageway in his home. Right behind him was Willa. After a brief interlude of disagreement, Dmi lost to Willa in regards to her accompanying him.
The corridor was small and narrow, and cut thru the stone of the old castle. Cobwebs lined the aisles, insects, and small rodents scurried as the torch lit the way deeper from the Castle. Following it for a few hundred meters, they found it led to a cave in a wooded area near the seashore. Leaving the torch in the cave, before exiting the cave, they saw an old Church, small and rundown… hidden from view.
Well of course he got an argument… after nearly scaring the wits out of her by falling as he did! She ended it all with a rather sweet smile and a pat to his cheek with the comment that followed. "A'ight..fine… ya goes rights on ahead… an I'll gives ya a coupla minutes afore I follows anyways." Which was likely followed by several other silly comments of keeping her safe and what not. What was it with men and wanting to keep her in a blithering bubble?! It was a good thing that the little country lass was not the squeamish sort. As walking though the layers of cobwebs and the hushed scurrying of furries moved passed them in the darkness she followed along.
The religious building seemed untouched for a very long time, yet inside the old Church, Dmitrii and Willa found signs that someone had been here recently.
The cast of fresh air was tainted with the salt from the water not too far off, she looked about slowly, hovering perhaps a little closer to Dmitrii then. It was Dmitrii's keen sight that caught sight of the church as Willa canted her head a moment... but all in all following his lead still as they moved down to inspect it.
It was then he decided that they would plan a trap to see who was using the old Church.
Her attention shifted away from the old markings and such upon the ruined building itself, to take note of the lack of dust just outside on the steps that lead to it. Once inside... the remnants were still more to bring about the belief someone had found the old church and now used it to their own advantage. The husk of a fire was used against the old flooring and the church seemed to have lost a few of its pews a well. Her hand absently reached out for Dmitrii's as she looked around. The two men discussed things as the plan was formulated to capture whomever it was that had come to call this place home.
"Dmitrii… mayhaps ya oughts leaves folks where they be... I canna see's em givin yerself naw grief." She offered wanting to see the best in people, even when proven wrong about it... it didn't stop her from wanting to hope for it.
He nodded, and unexpectedly agreed with her. Making their way back to the cave, gathering some branches with leaves on the way back, he made a hasty broom, to clear the cobwebs from the tunnel. With a wink, he urges her back into the cave where he took up the torch making their way back to the main house.
