General Maahes-Once upon a time..a hot boiling desert laid claim to the lives of many, save one. A cruel relentless sun melted away kindness and carved a man of stone. Everything about the Avarian General kept men at edge, but when he prepared for battle it was a time spent in silence. Plates of steel wrapped in leather fell over a body hugging every curve with perfect precision. Strength, power; it was hard to imagine there was in fact a man behind this mask of an animal. African drums burned under his chest fueling a fire that could rival the Sahara. Over the sands of the beach a camp was removed, packed away and no trace of any life was left behind. Ruthless, barbarian like men headed onto the ships. They waited what before them without a thought, minds focused only on the trail ahead. "Lord General, will you be on the first or the second?" The desert born would then turn to the man, gold brown eyes passing over the man and causing his knees to grow weak. "Second." Meaning he was to take the second string of ships to depart. There was someone he needed to see before he left.
Anulia of Amora-Days had passed since she had heard any word or seen anything from the beast of a man. Still, he haunted her dreams and memories, but the answers of why were so far from reach. Remembering things that happened recently was easy, for she knew the steps that would take her to the beach where the Avarian camp lay, so why was it that a face of a male who shared skin much like her own was lost on her. Every time she sat within her window and stared at the stars, her mind gave her bits and pieces to a puzzle that did not fit. Dressing for the night and without a escort as other women had, she slipped into the darkness, moving through a forest she had spent months getting to know, until she reached the end of soil and the beginning of sands. Sands that played a part in a past she did not understand. It was then, as she climbed up the hillside and peered over, she saw that the camp was no more and men were moving about. Chocolate eyes peered through the strands of her straightened out hair before she sighed and looked among them to find the largest one of all. She waited, moving back a few steps to not draw attention until she saw him moving in the opposite direction. picking up her small, sandaled covered feet, she ran around the hillside, hoping to cut him off at the pass or in the direction he was moving. Coming around the cliff's side after having run down it, she came face to face with the massive mountain of a man and paused, making the sand stir around her. Before she could truly think more, the words spilled out. "You are leaving?"
General Maahes-"It is what brought us here." His words like the distant thunder of war; drums played out into the night. It pooled from his lips almost like a reluctant sigh. The waves crashed behind him, and the sounds made him weary so just the smallest hint of a gentleman played through. Maahes would offer her an arm in the direction he was heading, and down a path away from the ocean. If one could tell the future perhaps that man would be smiling right now. Their past was a twisted line of chance, and now they walked the very same line. Fate brought them together; inside the thin lines of hope and fortune. He had always hoped to see her again, and was fortunate to have been given the chance. For the first part of the walk Maahes was silent, a stone giant against the gentle lamb. "The first time we met..do you remember it?" His words were a little rushed, as if somehow they had been held back by a gate only to be released slowly. The chest plate of armor he wore exposed his arms, as he felt the rest to be too heavy and held him back. So if she were to take his offer, their flesh would be reunited.
Anulia of Amora-Every time he spoke, Anulia could hear other words with that same voice in her mind, but they were not often. It was as if too many people were talking at once. His words, were strange, but Anulia had come to accept such from every one that she spoke with. All of it was strange to her, so why did Maahes seem so familiar? The offer of his arm was taken without hesitation, wrapping warm and smaller fingers around his flesh, feeling the muscles dance at the touch and tighten. Turning her smaller form, she moved with him, grace against his power and oddly enough, fell into step by his side. Perfect in the sense of the word. The silence, was filled with her eyes looking up to the sky then towards the ocean over her shoulder as they moved farther and farther away, leaving the sound to be in the back ground and faint with each step taken. Soon, that voice that was unlike any other, brought her attention to his face, making her chin tilt upwards. "Yes. I do remember. I spoken to you in a language you did not understand. I touched you and you spoke firmly to tell me not to do such again. " The sands were fading into the shorelines, moving from just the warm sand to sand with patches of grass about it. She could feel the difference under the material about her feet. Touching Maahes skin, made her fingers tighten around as much as she could, though it was not even half his arm. Almost, to cling in the sense.
General Maahes-With her touch he could curl his arm with her hand as if to keep her there--holding her without reaching out. "No.." As he moved the sounds of leather and iron whispered back and forth, along with his heavy breaths. He was nervous about something and was having a hard time keeping her eyes. The night was alive around them, and for a moment he could be reminded of the stories she used to tell of her jungle homelands. With every bird he could hear 20, as she used to say. "You were afraid." His rich voice put the words together almost perfectly now. He could keep the sounds clean and simple. "You were afraid I would take something that was never theirs to give." Meaning her purity. His eyes would part towards her from the path, wanting to catch that little bit of familiarity should it arise.
Anulia of Amora-Anulia kept her hand still as the soft pressure moved over her hand, trapping it there. No? That one word had her chocolate eyes narrowing in confusion at him. That was what she remembered. Now and then her shoulder and side brushed against what armor was there to be touched, feeling the strength of it that added to his large body. He was...confusing. then again, maybe Anulia was the same often. Afraid? It seemed she always was some where on the out side of herself. When his clear words hit her sensitive ear drums, she nearly froze. It was only his larger frame and the momentum that kept her moving. Chocolate eyes met with his amber ones, that seemed to burn a hole right into her soul. Full lips parted as the flashes once more moved by, but...slower. Her fingers tightened more around his arm. Her time had come. She was chosen to be a mate finally, after dodging it for so long. A weak mate to a strong one, so the guards had said. Locked in a room, she huddled against the door and found her bravery. A giant, who did not move or really look to her rested his larger frame on his bed, not moving. Almost as if he did not breath. Words.. she found her words and they were strong while her voice was not. Anulia's eyes began to gaze over, for she could see it, but the feeling was hard to grasp. "I will not make it easy...I know those words, but what does this mean Maahes?"
General Maahes-His steps stilled slowly as inside those drums broke. Everything rushed him, all the emotion and self guilt that crushed his insides broke from their dam. It was raining inside the beast the water started to pool in the corners of his eyes. The natural pull would let her hand fall as he uncurled his arm to face her, but his open palm would meet her hand half way. Maahes stood there for a moment holding onto one hand while he would raise the other to brush up her arm. Her body would be pulled against his as his arms met around her shoulders. His forehead would fall to meet hers only to brush to one side as he embraced her. "I thought they killed you." He whispered to himself as if making up excuses for his out of place actions that he could not stop. She would think him crazy, and he flat out didn't care. All this time she had been alive and he had punished himself for not being strong enough to keep her safe. In the distance the second ship was starting to board, and he would need to return soon. However, for the moment he just wanted to really realize she was alive.
Anulia of Amora-Anulia's mind knew, but it was having a hard time letting go, as if wanting to be greedy and trap her in the place she now called home. It tightened and held on for everything it had, before Anulia saw his face and watched as something in the beast changed. her heart started to pound out a rhythm she had not heard in a long time. Fast and with a power others did not think she posessed. Be it that a man, who seemed as strong and stead fast as stone looked as he did now, or that she knew some where inside on what he spoke of, her eyes did not leave his to be the only ones dry. His arm opened up and she began to move her hand from him only to feel the caress and capture of his larger one. Almost as if spell bound, she watched his face, letting him lead in brushing his hand against the thin cloth that covered her arm. Moving forward, wanting to hug him naturally and for other reasons, she shook in his arms feeling the doors get ripped open. Slamming one after the other, they unlocked, giving her just enough so that she knew him. Her soft forehead met his and she sighed a shakey breath. Chocolate eyes closed as she felt that familiar brush and clung to him. "They did..." she whispered back, answering without knowing and yet, aware. Anulia lost herself, tears streamed down her soft face, burning their way upon her darker skin to leave a tint of red lines in their wake. She did not cry out, but was silent as she pulled back, just so she could see him. His scent mingled in the air and she took it in deeply. "I know you...I....died for you." she whispered. It was meant both literally and in another term. She had died for her own actions, but to be true to her heart and him.
General Maahes-His small show of weakness carried well into his face as he was embarrassed to even meet her eyes. He kept his gaze low only raising his eyes once to meet her with a shy look. He let her go then head hung and arms falling to his side slowly and reluctantly not wanting to let her go. "I let you slip through my fingers." He balled his fists up but not tightly, and his thumb would brush the tops of his fingernails in an attempt to rid himself the feel of her flesh. The touch chilled him, made his stomach turn, and his body would shake a bit. Instantly his entire frame would harden back up, his back would stiffen and he would brush his then open palms over the fabric of his pants. "I have let that life go.." He would stand there then and watch her, dark amber colored eyes watching her own.
Anulia of Amora-Anulia could see what he showed and when he tried to move from her, she moved closer, wanting it after so long without it. Would he back away from her now? After all they had been through. Already her mind was putting information in the right places, helping her understand. She knew Maahes well, but he was...different. He still kept his hair in the dreads she had begun and they had gotten so long. How long had it been? Years....she had been gone for years. What happened to Maahes after she was taken away? "You...could not stop them. You tried, I always knew that." His form changed from the shy and upset male, to the stronger one, that seemed to put up a wall. Was he feeling guilt for what happened to her? Let it go? "Let it go? Yes. Let the guilt go. I told you..I sealed my own fate. I was going to die no matter what you did. It was my hands that killed Clevert...not your own. I was a unworthy mate for you..they said so. The fates have given us another chance though....we are here now." she reached out for him again, wanting to touch him, any way she could. Tears had stopped, but the glittering in her eyes from the lights around them was still found. So many questions, but...he was leaving." You are going to leave me now. After you have found me." Perhaps she had thought wrong then. She thought, there was a chance he did want her to be his, but resisted for reasons of his own. Still, that calness melted over her, hiding her own hurt inside, for he had enough of his own and did not need her's added. Confusion was still in the mist of her mind, trying to clear out the things she did not need and keep what she did. All of her memories were not back, but enough to know who he was and what they had shared. Anulia did not know of the battles that were in process with the Avarians. Had she known, she would have understood. Instead, she was left to her own conclusions and with the emotions swirling, she almost missed his attire completely. Only then, when she looked upon him, did she see that armor about him and no matter what a person's mind had come to, she knew what it meant. Where ever he was going, he was going to fight." I would like it if you would come back to me, after you....fight." Of course, it depended on if he was alive." If you survive." Many questions...questions she knew only he could answer. Tears rolled down her cheeks, but she did not cry out or reach for him. The fates knew what they were doing...didn't they?
