Set In Her Way: "'Nother round fer the room, Grufford, n' just tell m' a pleased merchant lass sought tae treat all the boys nice taenight," said the benefactor of spirits to the masses one spring night, "N'right pleased she beh." The man gave a bemused smirk to punctuate the fact he had heard her. Women baffled Grufford, every last one of them. From the young bride he'd gotten when her family tossed her at his feet to the ones who were supposed to be blue bloods. In a time that seemed just three months from yesterday, no self-respecting woman would be caught around brash, foul mouth sailors for it would offend her sweet disposition. Only the sailor's wives, tavern girls, and the occasional strumpet had no care for the old social moors, but today was a new day, wasn't it? A woman in breeches was buying rounds for all the boys. No one decried where the ale had come from so long as the coin didn't come from their pockets! A few men had an idea, those who worked the Highland Duchess, who walked the decks of the Griffin's fine fleet. Once upon a time, the Lady of All had only been their callused-handed Captain (d)
Defective Beauty: Jelenah had been quite the distant one lately as well as silent. Everyone had talked about what had transpired between she and the Duke when he had began to lose his mind. The poor woman was beside herself and had even managed to hide away the discomfort of those feelings from her Lady Duchess. Jelenah worried what Bess would think of her should she find out and the bigger question was, should Jelenah be so bold to tell her of the incidents herself. For she not wish to bring quarry between man and wife nor between sisters. The golden blond made her way down the street and into the pub, entering just as quickly and quietly as she always had. Sparkling blue hues of sapphires would Immediately spot Bess when she walked in. She took in a deep breathe and would make her way to the bar first to put in her order. Then she would make her way close to her sister, not wanting to avoid her or distant herself to much to raise concern. <d
RobinetteDeLuce: Each day brought a new place to explore. Her steps that day had drawn her down to the sea's edge and the docks. She had walked along them wistfully, jealousy raising within her at the carefree men and how they laughed together. Even the occasional brawl was ended in a friendly manner. Barefoot beneath her skirts, that condition caused by swinging her feet just a bit too quickly as she sat on the edge of the dock, she grinned to herself, thinking of how it looked to see her slippers go twirling and flipping through the air only to land far beyond her reach out in the water. Oh well, she would find another pair later. Her curiosity peaked as she spotted a flash of golden hair disappearing through a door. Her steps quicken as she followed, a glance up and down the docks before she followed suit and pulled the pub doors open, easing quietly inside. -d
Set In Her Way: A trio of golden haired women, each different though fate had painted the tops of their heads in similar shades. One clung to a feared secret, another was beginning life anew, and the third? She came to be in the bedrock, the very cornerstone of her pride: By the green giving way to the sea. If Jelenah recognized her, she was one of the handful that did! Perhaps it was the homespun, well worn breeches tucked into folded down beater boots, the linen shirt beneath the well worn vest that hid her among the common folk. Without pretense or bombast, she assumed the gait of an everyday stride. "Well now, thought ye near became a ghost. Dun see much o' ye," she peered over the edge of the country's ship manifests with a keen glint of wit in emerald hue for the timid Jelenah, "Come, sit sit. Ah dun bite." At least for tonight, for now. Her voice was resonating glib merriment, her face a robust portrait of ruddy health from a day in the sun and saline air. (d)
Defective Beauty: Jelenah could and would always spot Bess even in the attire she chose to wear tonight. In fact, Seeing and assisting Bess in the clothes of today were a bit odd for her. Jelenah had always known Bess to wear the simpler and more humble of origin clothes. After all ... for years the two had worked side by side in the tavern in those days of Orkney. Seeing Bess now reminded her of those very days and times, making a smile slowly spread over full lips. "No M'Lady for I am always present and near to where those that be dear to me." Jelenah would reply in that soft melodic voice. "How fare you today since I last laid eyes upon you?" <d
RobinetteDeLuce: Hues of grey blue skimmed over the occupants within the Pub. Her step a rhythmic mixture of skip and step, took her on tiptoe to the bar. Her hand s rested softly against the edge as she softly requested a cup of tea. As she waited, her eyes shifted to the two women again, a smile coming. She had yet to meet any within this land that were not a friendly as could be. It as at that moment, she decided that she would stay, surely her father would never guess that it was in this land his willful daughter had fled to. Another smile came quick as the cup of tea was placed before her, steaming and strong. The coin was passed and she moved over near the fire to enjoy the cup. -d
Set In Her Way: No one would suspect the Island of Skye, a Scottish entity, to be nearly a country unto themselves! Who would make their way to balmy, mist-ridden, clannish old Scotland? Beathag was still in awe of the fact so many from the world cast their lot among the most stalwart, supposed-traditional, sect of old Celtic countries. "Such is sae, ye are always at a beckon when hence ye beh called, but tis ye full mind n' ways Ah've missed lately, nay ye presence 'pon your duties. Though ye did look a might odd this mornin' when Ah told ye I'd dae m'own buttons n' laces after ye insisted on layin out mah ensemble." She pursed her lips together before letting the half-grin materialize, the wink roll down the right eyelid in quick flash sequence. Just over Jelenah's shoulder and beyond a round table was the wall-clinging flower of some days before who seemed to now bloom other than where she was planted. Hand lifted to her in greeting, for the Duchess could keep a fine court in a place like this. (d)
Defective Beauty: Jelenah would let her smile fade just the slightest but not for long as the Lady In Waiting would catch sight of that wink. "I have had much on my mind as of late. And I do apologize for that if it has caused any ... concern or on your part. I hope that in time, things will not weigh as heavily upon me." She glanced about and those hues of bright blue spotted a new face, one she had yet to meet. Traveler or resident she did not know, but neither would be turned away from the flash of a warm smile and a respectful nod. Eyes turned back to Bess then as Jelenah's drink was served. Wine ... again tonight and how odd it was. The Lady had grown a taste for it a good bit lately and some could assume as to why. Her usual drink of tea with honey and or the orange mixture Eirian use to have stashed away in Orkney, did not seem to be strong enough these days. <d
RobinetteDeLuce: She spotted the wave, a slight crinkle of her nose trying to remember if that had been one that had crossed her path over the last few days. So many within this land had hair the color of golden wheat waving in the sunlight, but she could not place her. A slight shrug thinking that perhaps she had been at the festival and her hand lifted giving a wiggle of finger and an uptilt and tip of her head in recognition. Another wave was offered to the second lady as well. "Hello to you both, I hope the day has been kind." She did not wish to interrupt their conversation, but Robbi has the most difficult time keeping silent for a long period. The cup was lifted as she blew lightly over the steaming brew and took another drink. -d
Set In Her Way: The assumption was correct she had been! Of course, given that a public spectacle was had because she had ascended the threshold of her 35th year wasn't easily noticed when the Duchess cast off her good fabrics, was it? "Good evening' m'girl, aye tis been fine n' a blessin, thank ye fer askin. Won't ye sit down n' tell us how ye've gotten along thus far Mistress DeLuce it beh, aye? Robinette DeLuce. " Change a garment, change a mood, but the voice of thick Highland brogue over English would never change, "Jelenah, this young lady beh Robinette DeLuce, come tae make her way n' fortune 'ere last I recall, n' this here is Jelenah D'vorak, m'good sweet friend n' sister o'heart, crazy enough tae attend such as m'self.." Legs were crossed, one ankle resting on the opposite knee, as the leather folio would be put aside in light of pleasant company. Let us hope she didn't give said company a shock! (d)
Defective Beauty: Jelenah looked back to the young woman and smiled again when she approached them with her greeting and well wishes. "Good evening to you as well Miss. And yes ... it has been a wonderful day." She would say in response. The golden blond would cast her gaze back and forth between the two. First from the young woman and then to Bess, only for it to be repeated on several occasions. "Well it is a pleasure to meet you Miss Robinette DeLuce. I hope you have found your days here thus far to be pleasant and I hope they continue to be so for as long as you are here." She went on to add. Looking back to Bess now she smiled some as her lips readied to part again, allowing such a sweet voice to escape berry colored lips. "How are the children? And the Avarians...are they enjoying their visit here?" <d
RobinetteDeLuce: A gasp would be taken as the realization struck her "Perdonimi la duchessa.." Her eyes would close in a silent scolding as she lapsed into her native tongue, then a quick shake of her head as if to clear it. "Pardon me Duchess, I did not recognize you. Oh you look so very different." She grinned to the other "Yes Grazie, a pleasure to meet you Jelenah and all have been wonderful to me." She fell silent again, completely content to let the two catch up, she had not realized that the Duchess had children, she began to let her mind drift in a sort of daydream, wondering how many there were, if they were girls or boys, their ages. A smile touched her lips picturing within her mind a dozen or so rambunctious children running and playing through the castle. -d
Set In Her Way: She laughed for she had expected no less. Shaking her head, she beckoned her closer with the offer of a chair, "Nay pardon needed, come, sit with us n' beh known. Tis costum here tae share table n' conversation often, fer in such we be nay strangers any longer. Then ye'll beh privy tae mah odd habits n' such story." On the mention of children, she turned to Jelenah with a smile that went from half to unbridled fullness "Children beh happy n' healthy n' entirely tae big. Aodhan's five just as ah be 35 n' come up tae m'waist n' some past. He will be a vera tall lad m'thinks, growin' out o' his shoes n' such sae fast can hardly keep up. Feel bad, take on some o' the patchin' o' the knees o' his britches with Aida, he be climbin' in daein as boys dae. Edme walks on two sturdy feet n' talks all the live long day, sae full o' words now! Aodhan has asked fer a saddle like his fathers n' a brother n' sister..told him he'd have better luck with the saddle. Edme beh enamoured with everyone she meets now, e'en got m'brother tae smile. Och, the young hold such secrets." (d)
