*Lady Eirian Apolluis*
The day had descended to night, with the night came the rain replacing the snow. Eirian watched from inside the cozy briar both the puddles grow to lakes with roof snow spread out over cobble stones. Plop! More snow went to water's sacrifice, like a game of chess where the king was taken down by an obvious occurrence. Tea in hand warmed white palms that some wondered if they ever warmed at all. Eirian could live in this season. She was, after all, a January child. The storm trapped in her eyes, the earth on her skin. The thoughts in her head were not winter though, but of life itself. Of court, expectations (d)

Leland had managed to find himself a room available at the Briar... had been getting a bit more familar with the city, its streets, and the less traveled paths that only those that dared to take them. On this particular night, he had gone out for just such a reason... to learn more of his surroundings. One never knew when the past caught up with you and said person needed to know which way lead to where. He wore simple clothing tonight... black boots, muddy brown breeches, a plain white tunic with a matching muddy brown vest. His cloak was of a dark grey color. As he left the cold of the outside and entered the warmth of the inn, he pushed back the hood to reveal those dirty blonde locks and mysterious blue hues. His hair was a bit wet... and after removing his gloves, ran his fingers back through it in hopes to comb it back into place for awhile. He needed something warm to drink, to sit by the fire and let the chill be chased away from deep within his body before heading to his room for the night. [d]
*Lady Eirian Apolluis*
Eirian needed to warm her heart against the pangs of doubt so wondered if the two could do it. Another sip left moisture's stain against the lips cherry colored by God. He was the best artist of all of them in his never changing wisdom in an ever changing world. Over the edge of the cup she saw people escaping the cold and among them the man who sought her employ, who danced with her in the halls of Northampton. A man of many talents yet he sought to care for her horses. He seemed capable enough but the question itself hadn't been answered yet. Now, both seeking warmth, was a good time. "Hale and good eve, Master Corwin." Tea became wine to toast the arrival of the common man as if he were a lord. Simpler by the heights of fashion's standards, the good wool of her attire was woven on her loom and cut by a dressmaker's hand to flatter, fit, and frame. It was more garish simply because it was noticeable. she never sough tto be noticed but looking to like was the world's desire. What did they think of Corwin? (d)
*Leland Corwin*
As he moved further in, he headed toward the bar as he slowly began to remove the cloak from his tall lean frame. He wasn't a man of a bulky figure nor more muscle than needed. He was tall, lean, well proportioned. As could be expected with such a mysterious man, his looks failed to do him justice. For there was a hidden strength within those muscles of that frame that might otherwise be missed when not put to use. His cloak was hung on a nearby peg, and he leaned into the bar with an elbow propping on the counter top while a hip pressed against the siding. "I'll have a hot tea... not warm... hot please." he requested as he maintained his lean but let his eyes slowly sweep across the room. He would catch sight of the winter angel and her toast as she greeted him. He gave a warm small smile and nodded as he straightened himself. "Good eve to you Lady. It is nice to see you again." He replied. His drink was handed to him then and he fished out the correct amount of coin for payment before making his way over toward Eirian. Leland was a man that rarely wished to be noticed, but due to certain circumstances, that wasn't always the case. A man's duties sometimes had a way of making him stand out. Especially in his line of work. "Might I join you? Perhaps if permission is granted, we might discuss further of my possible employment." [d]
*Lady Eirian Apolluis*
He was a man of neither and ors, just as she was a woman of not muches and simplicity. His figure mattered little so what was it that she sought? The mind. Always the mind, ever a good thought. When he turned around he paid her salutation and again she would hale him. "Join you if it should so please and let us indeed discuss more your employ as I have thought on the matter.." A guard sat at a separate table with a fellow from the night watch who's time had done, two eyes on one woman. Winter's angel was merely a woman, and all are fallible. "How fare you?" (d)
*Leland Corwin*
Leland smiled more and nodded. "It would please me greatly, though, only if you promise I'm not interrupting anything." He glanced around a moment to see if maybe other company had gone for a moment and was now on its way back, but none made moves toward the Lady and so only after allowed, he'd take up a seat across from her. The guard and the other fellow were both noted, but his attention turned back to the woman that now sat across from him. "So you have thought more on this then? and I fare very well, thank you. Yourself My Lady? How has the day been and how does this night treat you?" [d]
*Lady Eirian Apolluis*
"No you interrupt nothing but my thoughts cycling through my cup of tea, so please sit you." No company to keep, nothing to hinder the flow of words between them. He could see to his own chair no doubt being a man, and so it was. Across from her Leland took up his place or the conclusion of business. "Yes, I have. I have thought more on it and think it should be good to have a man who might care well for my horse. It is special to me, as are those of my kin. Have you had much truck with horses descended of wilder stock? Mine is a mountain horse from a cold place, hale and hearty, smaller, but swift. I should like to have someone beside her that would see she is well fed and her coat and muscles always well tended for she is ridden for all, pleasure and purposeful travel. That my kinsmen horses are well kept, and the mount of my eldest daughter which is young as you could imagine. The day? Oh it has been well. Wet, but well. All my things are now within the castle's keeping and us to our suite. You would need make introduction with the castle servants, what think you on this? My horse would may move, twixt the castle stable and the stable of the guild hall should I come down the hill again for any due time " but she was sure she might stay on that hill, to endure and to thrive by self force. Eirian was not one for court, but loved who it kept (d)
*Leland Corwin*
The dirty blonde male settled in quite comfortably, showing no sign of discomfort or uneasiness. As if he had known the woman across from him for years rather than days. He lifted his cup to his lips, carefully drinking of the hot liquid before it was lowered and held steadily. He listened as she shared with him her thoughts on his working for her and her kinsmen of their horses. "It pleases me to hear this... and yes, I have had my fair share of experience with equines that are less than... compliant." He chuckled here a bit but his gaze would always return to her own. "I am sure your horse as well as the others are fine specimens of the breed. And I would of course make sure they maintain that little extra something that makes them who and what they are." He drank of his tea again before he would continue to respond. "I'm glad to hear it has one as well as it has for you. And I would have to agree... although cold and wet... its been a good day." Any day that he managed to keep his life was considered a good day. "I understand... and I would be willing to do all that is required and then some to see to not only the needs of your horses but for you as well when necessary." [d]
*Lady Eirian Apolluis*
Any day that war didn't come, blood didn't fall without warrant or all of them went on to the next sunrise was a good day. If he said that aloud she would concur. "My household's steward could tell you well about them from his own learning, and you seem capable of consideration. As for the needs of myself I am glad you mention so...my steward feels that with our appearance in court the appearance of an extra groomsmen would be beneficial a lead for the horse on hunts or a mounted escort in edition to the guard, someone to announce visitors or announce us..it is all rather.." Bombastic? Ridiculous. Etremist. "Necessary this season. What say you to that?" (d)
*Leland Corwin*
Leland, had he known her thoughts, he too would have had to agree. War was a horrible thing really... Men fighting men... turning brother against brother at times and the reasons could be as ridiculous as children squabbling over a favored toy. She went on to further inform him of the needs that were to be met sooner or later, sooner it seemed and by him. He nodded softly. "I think that is something I could manage well My Lady. Very well indeed." he replied with a slight chuckle. "Your steward sounds as if he is a very good man and is very good at what he does. Are you sure I'm needed?" he teased. He shifted in his seat some to get comfortable once more, yet on the opposite side. He could have agreed with her entirely had he known how she felt about this sort of thing. [d]
*Lady Eirian Apolluis*
Land was a favorite toy, houses, horses. Gold. Vengeance was an acrimony that everyone suffered from and few mastered the art of enacting with vim and vigor. Eirian had come to understand God's plan of fighting when the lot called for it but desired most his promise of swords to plowshares. She laughed, "My steward and his son have seen to many needs of my home and estate but can not do everything themselves it is impractical, and a proper household has many to see to even the most mundane. You being so resourceful could see both the large and small with aplomb. "She watched the rain increase in heaviness, the guards groaned. They would in it later track hard or no, for she would not spend a night from her children. Unseen scars under the thick ebony locks were worried out of summer's formed habit (d)
*Leland Corwin*
"Then its settled, yes? For I am now employed by the Lady Eirian Apolluis and kin. I'm sure there many that would be as pleased as I to have such an opportunity, an honor for such duties. I can't thank you enough." He was a man that had no problem showing gratitude to those that deserved it. To deliver not only this but much more in regards to other... reasons. To hear her laugh however was like hearing an angel sigh. It was something he was sure the Lord Apolluis gave thanks for, for any man that didn't do such was thought to be foolish. "Understandable My Lady, but worry not... for both he and his son shall have less to worry with now that I am able to help see to things needed." He glanced to the window near by, stared a moment and seem to become lost in the droplets that raced down the pane of glass before finally coming back to the here and now. He looked to Eirian and finished off his tea. "So might I be joining you on your return to the castle this night or am I allowed one more night of freedom?" he asked jesting. Leland had no problem with going and retrieving his things to accompany his new Lady and began the duties asked of him, but he had to admit to himself, he couldn't pass up such a jest. [d]
*Lady Eirian Apolluis*
"Keep you your freedom tonight and another if you should so prefer, the week is late and no events are yet called, and it will be far too wet for days after to hunt or outer congregate. Only I like the rain. A good Scottish rain. It is not the same as an English rain, the rain of my childhood, nor as turbulent as they told me the Welsh rain of my birth was yet so much rain could be..cleansing." Wash away the sins even not yet committed, bury them deep in the soil to bloom spring flowers; to make beauty from regret. "I have my guard and an escort additional when we begin to progress." She was used to her steps being watched beyond the estate or prayer pilgrimages to valley shrines. With age comes acceptance of state, and the goodly men who seek to protect. Still some things were harder. The Winter Angel still felt strange in this world, and had much on her mind besides (d)
*Leland Corwin*
He smiled and glanced down before he lifted his gaze once more as a he laughed a bit. "Many thanks My Lady, I shall make them count." He nodded and then looked to both the guard and the other man that had and would be accompanying Eirian back to the castle. Eyes of blue turned back to his new employer and his head canted slightly. The way she described the rain was... well, heavenly. If only the rain could in fact cleanse all that it touched. The man that sat across from her felt that even if her were to sit out in the rain a hundred times, it wouldn't cleanse him of all that he wished to be swept away by the healing and nurturing waters. To bury it all deep to where none knew of what it was or how it came to be, only so that when time came... when it passed... that something good would eventually come of it. If only it were so. "If you are certain, then I will take this night and another as suggested unless called upon for you now know where to find me should I be needed. " He studied her for a long moment... sensing and reading that something troubled her. He would have been a gentleman... to ask if all was well. However, he felt he had yet to earn that privilege so soon after a gracious offer. Instead, he said nothing and moved to stand to his feet. "Well then.. Lady Apolluis, please do excuse me as it has grown late and if I am to see to you, your horse, and all other needs, I have a few needs of my own I must see to first. For rest is necessary." [d]
*Lady Eirian Apolluis*
"God keep you and rest well Master Corwin, enjoy you your days of peace. Happy Christmastide and soon we shall give thanks together for the turn of the year. I am certain I shan't need you any sooner. Enjoy yourself, take your leave as it pleases you." It was an idle way to hire someone. No references, no letter to follow him of recommendation and she doubted one would come after. Like the falling rain making rivers which went to the sea, Leland and Eirian had lives now that would bleed together. The servants of her house enjoyed a familial bond, finding the Lady in the soil with them, at the loom, or in the fields. Leland would find at court that Eirian was not one to sit idle in sew. What would they share, what secrets to tell? Would he ever? She felt something followed his heels. Something quick to make him desire work as if to rid the mind of it (d)

"Thank you Lady and you as well when you leave to go and find rest yourself. Happy Christmastide and yes, much sooner than we both might think. For it will be here before we know it as it seems the days go by much faster than they once did." He knew the woman had gone out on a limb here in hiring him, as he knew it was not the normal or best way to get hired helped. This made him appreciate her offer all the more. He was after all a complete stranger, none here knew him, none here called him family. Leland was sure that now that he had at least one job... he would have less time to think back on days past. Less effort would be needed to rid the mind of things he no longer wish to remember constantly. He was sure that whatever was to come, had to be better than what had past. Be it to sit and talk with her as she sewed, to kneel down beside her and help her and her family with hands in the soil or brush the coats of horses. He was sure that in time... he would learn more of her and her family, but would they learn more of him? Had he known what she felt... it would have made him leary, but neither confirm or deny her assumptions. "Good eve Lady... " he bowed and stepped back a pace or two before turning and making his way back to the bar where the now empty cup was returned, and then gathered up his cloak before he made way to his room for the night. A night that would end up long and painful like all other nights. The only difference is, where man refused to shed tears, the sky did it for him. [d]
