Mena had worked with the others and the new larger house had taken shape. She and the others now prepared for not only the winter but for the winter festitivites. The children were excited as they strung small berries with needles and thread while the Mena and the other women went about baking.
The dividend she was now recieving not only from Bess but from the church as well, she put it all to good use. The children would find come morning wrapped gifts of various natures, for the most part new clothing to see them through the winter months and shoes as well. One of the ladies had even gone so far as to make dolls for the girls, while the boys would have craved horses and carts. Those however had to be purchased from the farmer down the road.
She had gotten the invitation to meet with those others within the castle and celebrate with the noblility, however Mena simply set it aside to join up with the simple celebration of the winter with the new extended family. She had truly contemplated it. However.. there were somethings that were left behind for good reason.
" Momma.. we got the berries strung up.. " The little boy hollered out as Mena turned and looked at him.
" Well look at that.. you did a fine job. Well get them onto the tree. "She gave a nod as the kids made a small half circle as she watched them decorate the tree with small ornaments made by their hands from pinecones and bits of fabric given to them. She smiled softly and reached for her coat. The small nod was given to one of the women as Mena just stepped outside.
Her walk wasn't far from the house. just up the hill to a small cross planted in the ground. She just stood there while teh cold wind mussed her hair and her eyes locked onto the layer of snow. The small hand slipped out and dusted off the snow before she dropped into a crouch.
" Merry Christmas Father. " She spoke softly as she just stared at the grave. " The hous eis full.. not exactly how either of us planned but, lets face it ..when has anything we planned ever pulled through? "She asked softly as she wrapped her arms around her knees. " I'm sorry.. for alot of thigns.. I guess this time of year reminds me too much of those we spent traveling or snowed into the mountains in Germany. "She spoke with another sigh and her eyes staring off. " I wish you could have met Edward.. he's a good boy. "She just rambled.. for no other reason then this time of year often made her want to.
From the window the little boy watched her and looked back as one of the ladies shook her head. " Leave be boy..sometimes.. its good for the soul. " She stated guiding Edward back to the tree triming and eating bread pudding.
