The ship sailed smoothly toward the dock as the man dressed in the black cassock stood stoically looking over the city. The deep red sash around his narrow waist fluttered in the autumn wind, as the frown upon his gaunt face deepened. He had no real wish to be here. He wasn't exactly happy about the assignment given, yet he would perform it to the best of his abilities.
The crew had kept quiet and well away from the Cardinal as he waited. The small grunt of distaste was given from his lips as the cabinboy moved forward to tell him they would be putting into port within the hour. He could see that.. but he choose to mind his own words before speaking them aloud.
He turned away from the sight of the heathen land to carry himself down below. He cared little for the lost souls here, he wished only to deliver what he had been charged with, then return to his beautiful mederterrian city. He gathered his things, as the bellows and calls came from the captain and bouson to the sailors. The rich velvet cloak was drawn out and settled about his shoulders while the cap was placed upon the crown of his head.
How difficult could it be to find the girl? More importantly who to speak to first? He had his ideas and with luck the girl had at least kept up her devotions, regardless of the manner in which she had departed Italy. Again he sneered to give up the golden city of Rome for.. this? It merely showed the poor breeding, though that would absolutely be kept to himself.. all reasons remained names.
As the knock came to the cabin door, he lifted the small satchel ,as he had no intentions of staying any longer then he must. " Yes..yes I am coming. "He stated firmly as he heard the pattering of the Cabinboy's feet rush off. He took his time in departing, leaving nothing behind as he came once again up into the autumn air. He looked around once more before making his way down the dock.
His chin held high and his eyes looked down the hook like nose at those that passed him. Ironically, those that actually looked up from their work paused and stepped aside for him. As well they should.. he believed as he made his way down toward the HarborMaster's office.
" I am looking for your local chapter of the Catholic church.. where may I find it? " he asked quietly of the man, the smooth melodic voice lifted, yet it held a cutting edge to it.
