Kaelyn’s Wedding
Then the night of Kaelyn’s wedding, Dmitrii was dressed in his formal black and silver… beard neatly trimmed, eyes gleaming every time he looked upon Willa. He arrived at the Castle upon the large black Friesian only to enter a carriage that would wisk him and Willa to the wedding. Dmitrii, as her brother, was to give Kaelyn away and he escorted Willa the rest of the evening. So many people around, and him being in the wedding party, all he could do was smile and wink at his heart in the audience. After the wedding, during the festivities, he would coax Willa to the dance floor and guide her thru the formalities of the dances. A few stepped upon toes was well worth the time he was able to touch and hold her close during those flashed instances. Meanwhile, Odis, her Father, watched with keen interest that Dmitrii spent most of his time with his daughter.
The day of the wedding she had dressed herself with care, with help from Aimlee and Eileen. The blond hair swept up from her neck and tiny little flowers again were placed within its coils. Her father was there... she was certain of it... however her eyes had no sight except for one. The winking he had done brought a familiar blush to her cheeks as she lowered her chin, missing the arid glares from more than one lass hoping to catch the foreign lord's affections. Odis didn't... but so long as it remained glares there was naught to be done about it. Willa and Dmitrii danced, only being cut in upon once by her father. In his eyes, they were getting a bit too comfortable with that lack of space between them.
After the festivities were over, they spent more time together walking thru the gardens holding hands… Though unbeknownst to them, father Odis watched from the shadows. The pair always gave whole-heartedness of propriety when they were together… most of the time.
Odis watched only from those shadows... so long as things remained slow... careful; .he would remain silent. ONLY IF.
Dmitrii had noticed the other lasses trying to gain his attentions, for his was for Willa. In the garden, enjoying the walk, he paused, bending over to pick a red Spanish rose. Shortening the stem and removing thorns, he faced her, sliding the bright red flower over her ear, into golden hair. Then he kissed her cheek. Propriety in public he thought as he smiled at her.
The gardens would soon be full of people, thereby limiting what the pair could do or could not do. Smiles and winks passed between them, small talk, never ceasing, of their past times together and how nice it would be for future meetings...
Finally, the hour grew late, the newlyweds had prepared for their retreat to solitude. Dmi and Willa stood by the walkway, he on one side, she on the other, to shower the newlyweds with flower pedals as they made their departure. Dmi would crinkle his beard in the renowned fashion as he smiled at the gleam of his eye.
Later that evening, his offer to walk her back to the Castle was denied by her Father, Odis, who preferred to walk his daughter back to safety himself. Dmi politely thanked him for time spent with his daughter and winked at Willa and watched them depart. As she looked back he waved and smiled. Then turned whistling a Rus folksong.
