[This is Part I of II]
This takes place the afternoon after Lee had arrived in the Infirmary to visit Kaelyn.
-Lee-
::It had been hours since Lee arrive at the Healing Wards.
Phantom had thankfully made sure Lee had been given the time he needed alone
with Kae so that he could speak to her. Pagan believing that Lee's voice
would help give the Dame an anchor to the world at large. Now as he stepped
from the room, needing to drink some water and take a break to move, once
again at his brother in arms insistence. He stood just outside the door in
the hall. Small metal cup in hand with cold water, from which he sipped lightly.
Pacing no more then three steps in either direction from the door itself.
Clad in the light black robes of his homeland, his sword still within the
room he did not carry it into the hall. Ignoring the odd stares from the passing
physicians who still did not like the fact Phantom was insistent Lee be
allowed to stay.:: -d-
-Liliana-
Tragedy struck when one least expected. It seemed that this
peace so loved and desired was coming to an end. Perhaps not for everyone,
but for many. All were seeing how chaotic the world could become when change
occurred in the world. Liliana had heard of Kaelyn's injury and immediately
set in motions plans to see her- as soon as was allowed. Considering the
physical state, figure rapidly returning to old(she could see her feet!) it
made walking a lot easier, and how she was grateful. Moving down the hall
toward the room she'd been directed toward, Liliana tugged at her ebon braid
absentmindedly. She'd not been given many details on Kae's state, though had
demanded them, and wished Kendrew had been able to come with her though knew
he'd arrive soon. Chocolate eyes took note of each door passed as she was led
along toward a room where a man waited outside,"Excuse me, can the Dame
Kaelyn see visitors?" Liliana thought perhaps he was one of her guards.
(d)
-Kendrew-
Peace was a state of being, a place in time; the way of life
it embodied was coveted in as much as it bored a man when it was attained.
Still, the days of yore that bespoke his old glories led to what he now held
more precious than a chance to shake spears in the face of his enemies. Since
the end of the wars that changed the face of all they knew, he had settled
himself behind the youth of the island to live a life long denied him.
Drynoch was not without
Set In Her Way: intrigue, et it faded like old smoke through the grain
fields. One month ago he had looked at himself wrought with the best
portions of his lady wife. Morgan Lucius Campbell, a son of his blood. Would
this have ever happened if he still shook spears? The mind pondered the dilemma on the
road between Drynoch to Struan, Struan to Turas Lan, out to the shores and
back again. While they lived in the afterglow of seeing all their work
rewarded by the crowning of the King and Queen, beyond the light it was all illusion.
How could the world fall apart without so much as a whisper on the wind?
Sleat was a hot-bed of treachery, Struan the seat of clan trials...and of
Kaelyn? He snarled at the thought of her abandonment. The Austrian. He was
fortunate to have found his way off of the island before he could cross
through the Campbell's grasp. What was going on? When had the General lost
his way, or his wife lose her thoughts? Why could he find nothing of what had been
before? By the time he came to the infirmary, his worry coupled with his
indignation at the state of affairs was kept behind a thin line. It was the
people around him who whispered: I thought the Lord Campbell was retired.. Oh he
came on occasion, to train the men. To see youth shaped while doing no battle
field shaping of his own. But now, even that was falling apart (d)
-Lee-
::so focused had he been on his inward thoughts, the sudden
appearance of the female had caught him off guard. Warriors instinct honed by
countless years of training taught him to reach for his sword. Even as his
hand reached for where his trusty Shi o hakobu Seigi always sat... only to
grasp at air. Good thing, as he realized a moment later the lady before him
was no threat. He stood straight again, his soft brown eyes meeting the
woman's own without fear. Bowing a bit, he rose slowly.:: My Dai... My Lady is still
unconscious. As for whether or not those who run the infirmary believe she
should have visitors forgive me I cannot say. My name is Gao Lee... ::He told
her, again bowing lowin the traditional style before rising.:: You come as a
friend? -d-
-Liliana-
A threat? Liliana would have been amused by such thoughts.
The ability to fight had never come to Liliana nor the desire. She hated to
see other suffer injury, but would not balk at helping to tend wounds.
Inflicting them was another matter all together. There were only a few whom
she'd wished to do harm to, but that was not important now. The concern now
was for Kaelyn, a friend whom had suffered much in the time Liliana had come
to know her. That she now lay unconscious in the Healer's Hall made her heart
squeeze. "Please forgive me. I didn't mean to startle. I was told that I
could, possibly, see Kaelyn though they told me to run it by her guard. I am
the Lady Campbell, a close friend of Kaelyn's. Though you may feel free to call
me Liliana." Polite nod of head was given along with warm smile. Life seemed
to be chaotic even beyond her own peaceful world. The birth of Morgan had
only enhanced such sweet pleasure, but on the edges of it all was natural
worries- that of impending war for Skye or the wars of other Clans bleeding
into their borders. All Liliana desired was to see those she cared for safe.
(d)
-Kendrew-
"Use your eyes and your sense. Tha' should serve enough.
Where is the Lady being kept, n' what news. Quick now!" No wide eyes
lingered long at Kendrew, his presence a mountain throwing some of the
healers into its shadow. None of them were fools. The Court Physician wouldn't keep fools.
Gape mouth shocked came at the prolonged presence of a man who faded into
local myth deserving of every status. To see him, armed, equipped for the
full extent of his duties was not common. "Are there any others injured, what
village by the coast was it. Find the Lord General, n' tell him the Lord
Guardian has returned tae move as his hand. Has anyone given news to the
Marshall? This is not our way." A lesser man moved away to deliver the news,
while the man at Kendrew's right would be a young man of twenty some odd
years by the name of Brycean. Leave no mistake they were knighted, nor
their place. For once, the white tips of the grause clawpin feathers were in place.
Brycean sighed softly, "Ah have nay had the chance to meet the Lady Ranger
o'er much, yet have heard she is one of valor. She is in service tae the
general," Kendrew nodded, "Aye, Bryce, she is, n' she is one of mine as well.
One of our Talons. Why did they not tell us, why did Maahes not send for
more of the knights to move with him, this is wot they are there for. If she
went with the damned Austrian he was mixed in black business. Where were the
others o' the order, the Gold, or the Black. This sounds their affair."
Brycean could give no answer, and soon both of them followed the sound of
Liliana's voice. His presence softened for her, yet wondered over the strange figure
before the room doors. "Lady wife, Brycean ye've seen my wife at a distance.
The Lady Campbell." (d)
-Lee-
There is nothing to forgive, prayers going out to Suzaku...
both for my Lady's health, and for her forgiveness when she awakens... ::He
waved it off for now reaching for the door he opened it. All within was
quiet. Kaelyn lay upon the best with the best of care that could be afforded her.
Lee's eyes shifting to the approaching figure that was every bit the warrior
he was, and Lee had no doubt that the man could hold his own. As he neared,
Lee again bowed to the man, no need to ask for hushed tones, such went with
out saying. His hand raised he motioned for them to enter the room, where he
himself could follow.:: She still lays unconscious my Lord, Lady. She took
a lot of damage, I fear she took this mission before her eyes were adequately
healed. Though with my training she could have defended herself well enough,
I do not know what had come of it to leave her in such a state. ::He had very
little answers, even physicians did.:: She survived three days and nights alone,
and injured. she lost quite a bit of blood... -d-
-Liliana-
"My prayers are with her as well." Both hands were clasped
at waist, Liliana's face calm though inside she worried for Kaelyn's
recovery. Liliana was not a woman prone to hysterics. Though she naturally
worried for those injured, especially friends or family. The sound of Kendrew's voice
made head turn to the side, gaze meeting his own with concern in their
depths, as she smiled kindly at Brycean,"It is nice to meet you, good sir,
though I wish it could be in happier circumstances." Moving forward now, sure to keep
quiet, she moved toward Kae's bedside. The woman looked vulnerable and that
broke Liliana's heart. "What happened.." The details had not been many, and
she could feel tears sting her eyes though they didn't fall. (d)
-Kendrew-
"My lady, were tha' it could be better and better days to be
at hand." To whom did he belong? Silent by way of lineage, it was not hard
to place him for the curtain of long gold hair was held back by a thong of
leather. He had the face of Beathag, Eamonn, and others who no longer lived. He
stepped in the room after the first man. Kendrew canted his head in greeting
to acknowledge Lee. Words would follow, they always did, for now no one had a
single one to give as they gathered at Kaelyn's bedside round. So many
questions would only be in his head: Why did so many chase danger like the
tail of a kite string? It was not a child's game they played! Their vows
reflected this, yet daring, things to prove, or loss spurned them on to
destruction in a name not of their Kingdom. "She had lost her sight?" No
word of this had come to him, of injury yes, but her eyes? Ginger hand climbed over
the top of his wife's shoulder before he knelt down at Kaelyn's bedside.
"There is only one of ye, my Dame. I will expect you to fall in line again
with all of us, sooner, rather than later. I will expect ye tae remember how to live
better than how to deal death, or find it for yourself." He gently pushed a
strand of hair from her head before he said, "The Queen is fraught with
worry. She tells me tae send such words, n' that Kaelyn is to want for nothing.
I trust, somehow, you would see to that regardless.." He looked at Lee with
studious, steady eyes. He was too old to be brash, this man. Too old to be
brash and too old to see a young world fall around him. He stood again,
putting his arms around his wife (d)
-Lee-
::He thanked them both for their words of hope. Even if he
did not speak them aloud. As the man spoke of Kae wanting for nothing Lee's
eyes turned to him. Seeing him hold unto the Lady's shoulder he knew the two
of them were of one Destiny. He met the mans eyes briefly, and in that time, he
hid nothing of his true feelings for the woman he was not meant for. Yet be
it fate or Divine Intervention, then were one of heart. Looking back to
Kaelyn he nodded.:: Of course... it is the least I can do. ::considering his own
failures to the woman personally he knew he would have to wait for her to
wake up ti find out exactly if Kae forgave him.:: She the purest soul I have
known in this world... since the death of my Noehime... I just hope Suzaku's
blessing continue to shine upon her, and that she awakens soon. -d-
-Liliana-
Loss of eye sight? Liliana hadn't known of this! How could
she have lost touch? Wrapped up in the fruits born of peace, in her family
and Drynoch, Liliana had lost touch with most of the world. Guilt assailed
the gentle soul for not having kept more contact with her friend. Kaelyn was one of
the few she'd been honored to meet, and call friend, shortly after her
arrival to this precious land. One slim hand lifted to wipe away tears that
leaked slowly down copper-skinned cheeks while taking comfort in the strength
provided by Kendrew's arms around her. "Do they have an idea as to how long
until she wakes?" Softly spoken words while Kae's still form gained her sole
attention. (d)
-Kendrew-
He held her close to him and looked down at a piece of
shattered glass made human. Yet, for them, the world had been filled with
such bliss that beyond Drynoch little else mattered. He began to detest his
own lack of fortitude, for enjoying what was given him. He shut his
eyes but no tears fell. He was too angry to do such a thing as that. Gentle
lips kissed his wife's forehead before he looked at Lee, "She is a fine
woman, and is tha' afore she is a fine soldier. Love both best, but love the first
more, tis the woman tha' hurts more than the soldier. The soldier will see
the woman killed if ye have no care." Eyes darkened at prospect of what lay
beyond this infirmiry. The world was pieced together message by message was enough
to make him fill missing shoes. "I am going to tell you now, there will be
much she will want to throw herself on, Lee. Do not let her dae it, or if it
must be, not alone. She is the General's woman, but as a White Talon she is
also mine, n' I forbid her recklessness. There is a fine line between
valor and insanity. You can do this?" He asked, serious. So many threw
themselves on self constructed funeral pyres!"The Queen would be distraught,
her brother the Weapon's Master..we are as family here. Recall tha', and you will do well" (d)
