Caden: For once Caden was summoned to the Library, he had been out practicing with his Uncle since he had shown up unexpectedly. He had not taken the time to change and so he was dusty and slightly sweaty from his work out. Anna as Usual was right on his heels. The moment he opened the door she slipped inside and went to lay down on a slab of cool marble, enjoying the coolness of the castle on the warm day. Caden's azure eyes wandered the library for those who had summoned him here.
Bethag: Caden Robertson was a topic of discussion, one the Duchess wanted to know as much as possible regarding. What about his skills, weakness? How had he done at all of his tasks? Like Caden, Beathag had
summoned Eirian this day to give knowledge on that very matter. Fingertips against her chin she reclined into one high backed chair as the lady leaned forward in another....
Eirian: Alabaster countenance inhaled air to transmit the signals of motion to the body in order to make the statue come to life. "He is only unsure in that he came from a place small to one large, as so many of us have been..but his feet
Set In Her Way: are as firmly rooted to his place of duty as are his heart and convictions.."
Bethag: "I do nay doubt his conviction, nor 'is heart, or where his feet be restin', M'lady. Only tha' ye are certain he can attain to such a thing, and you mean as you say?"
Eirian: "If you and the Lord Adam have given him your support," she reasoned, a hand falling against the now prominent round emerging from her figure, "I will back him and do more, I will see he is well taught as he has been, and he shall
Set In Her Way: have my continued and prominent support should he ascend his posistion.."
Caden: Ascend his position? how much higher could he go, He had been offered a place amongs the Talon's there was not a position much higher then that. He arched a blonde brow as he neared them bowing to Bess and then to Eirian. He would have hugged her but he did not want to dirty her clothes with his dusty frame. " Good evening M'Ladies. I came as soon as I got the summons."
Eirian: Eirian recieved the news that Caden was to become the heir of the current chieftain. At once, her senses began to sing with the want to divine the future; it crashed down in waves on the shore of all the logic, all the wisdom that could be garnered from the God-given mind to pull on the horizon until it had more. As Caden neared, she stood in his presence with aquiet smile upon her face that revealed nothing. "Good evening, M'Lord and brother.."
Bethag: Yes, enlightnment. It had been elusive to Beathag. She had her own questions, concerns, and evasive instances that time had to answer for with remedy to end the confusions. In matters of this nature, however, she would be nothing but ready. "Sir Caden good evenin'. How went trainin' with ye uncle?"
Caden: "Good Evening M'lady and Sister." He answered with a dimpled grin. With the question of his training asked he turned his gaze to Bess. " It went rather well M'Lady. I managed tae trounce him for once." He said with a grin and a chuckle. Ahh and the boy appears though it happened less
and less these days as he slowly becme more man then boy.
Bethag: "Ye grow in skill then! Jonas is by nay means an easy partner to train with m'men tell me." Wry grin pulled at the right corner of her mouth as she looked at him. Eighteen years, the country naievety melting away to reveal the man who'd been hiding behind the young lad who had taken a
golden spur. "I have some news to share with ye, please, come n' sit?"
Caden: He glanced hurriedly from Bess to Erian and back. He moved first to offer a chair to Lady Eirian for her to sit. Asking softly. " How are ye and Hope today?" Waiting till
she was seated before being seated himself and turning his gaze back to Bess after getting Eirians answer.
Eirian: It was time he was paid the custom of acknowlegement a lady ought pay to a knight of esteem. She made a graceful pass of curtsy before accepting the seat, "We are well, she grows more anxious each day to see the world, and still has a few months left!" Keen was the eye that turned to the
Duchess, and when given leave, she would begin the talk of news, "Caden, a letter was sent to Adam and Beathag not many days ago, concerning your place in Clan Robertson."
Caden: He smiled warmly at the curtsey though was surprised by it. He bowed his head a bit as he sat and then chuckled at her news of baby Hope. He wanted to reach out and touch the small mound that was Hope but refrained
not wishing to leave a dirty handprint on his Lady's dress. At she spoke of his place in the Robertson Clan he frowned deeply. " Why would my place in th' Clan be in question?" He wondered quietly if he had done something to anger his Clan Laird and turned concerned eyes from Eirian to Bess and back again.
Bethag: Beathag lifted a hand for peace to be had because the expression on Caden's face was anything but as his worry made his youthful brow close to garnering early creases. She didn't take her seat but went instead to touch his forearm. He wasn't a lad unused to work, and he would need that ethic now, "Your place in the Clan is questioned, but nay as ye think. Ye posistion has been assured as solid, in fact. The Cheiftan o' the clan has written to claim ye as the rightful heir of all that he has, and the head o' the clan in his stead one day." Would it prove as much of a shock as she or Adam imagined? There had been so many nuances to him coming to Turas Lan that she did not want his future muddled up by plots, but this was as sure as the stone they stood on.
Caden: He loooked up at her as she placed her hand on his forearm the defining muscle underneath flexing at the touch. His eyes grew wide. " Why would Laird Alexander claim me as his Heir, he has more then enough legitimate sons and grandsons tae claim tha' right, I am only a distant cousin many times removed." He claimed in surprise. If not for Bethag's hand on his arm he would have risen and begun to pace.
Bethag: "Ye are of closer lineage to ye heritage than ye would believe, Caden. Your Grandfather knew wot it was he was doin' when he named you thus..come lad, sit. Sit beside your Lady Sister and let us discuss this further."
Caden: He frowned. His grandfather? He retook his seat and glanced to Eirian and then back to Bess waiting for her tale to continue.
Bethag: "I know tha' ye know of the uprisings tha' have occured on Robertson lands in the past, the battles concerning Ian Robertson n' the other heir. There is much history ye do and do nay know, but it will be for Jonas to tell you, no I. What will be said is tha' you are not alone, Caden. We've
all looked down at our feet to see a great road to be crossed these days. As ye start on this journey, know tha' the Duke n' I will support you in anythin' you do. You will not be without knowledge, means, or a way to secure anything from now or any day."
Caden: Caden shook his head in wonder still lost, his head whirling with questions, questions that apparently his Uncle Jonas had answers to. He shook his head, " This is something I never expected tae happen. I mean each member is
guided in that direction in case something unforseen happens, bu....... " He paused and looked at Eirian for a moment. He gathered strength from her presence, his beating heart was calmed and he took a deep breath as Bess's words sank in. In the flash of an eye, in the time it took to exhale once and breath in again Caden went from man/boy... to man. He nodded in understanding. "If tis wha' His Lairdship wishes, I will nae deny it, and I will dae M'best tae rise tae his expectations." Much to be dropped on young shoulders, but as history would have it, even Kings begame such younger then Caden himself at times.
Eirian: Eirian held her breath as she waited to see what the answers would be, the questions, the looks from Caden. In such a short time he had gone from a mere lad seeking his fortune with an adventure at a castle, training, and war to a knight who was wondering what the future would hold. God gave a clarity to the obscure illusions youth had but also in one breath changed whatever course he may have set besides. He would feel her hand take his as she made a silent promise his destiny would not be witnessed alone. It wasn't so long ago that she was no older than him, naieve but no fool, uncertain but not unsteady, with a future that seemed to have been decided. "What you must do now is elect how this will come to pass, how you will write your destiny out. Remember, it is said that there are no coincidences in the world, and that all things happen with purpose. Destiny, too, you may write for yourself. The destination is set, little brother, only you must decide how
you will reach it."
Caden: He took her hand as it was offered and held it gently yet tight enough for her to know that despite his outward calm, inside he was like a caged animal needing to be set free from the uncertainties and constant questions. He offered her a smile taking her words to heart. He could not speak at the moment over whelmed with the implications of what was happening. He needed to talk to Jonas. And he would as soon as they were finished here. After a long pause something would occure to him and he would look to Bess. " I have made an Oath tae you and Skye M'lady, I have made an oath tae protect M'Lady Eirian, and those close to her agreed tae become a Talon, Will I be able tae dae both?" He coud not be in two places at once, but then He was young and Alexander was not exactly old, it would be yeard before he would take that place unless something happened to Alexander, but still his mind had jumped ahead.
Bess: She could see the war of oath and purpose writ across his features and knew it well, for her and Adam still fought the battle uphill everyday. She gave pause to his question so that he could see she considered his answers with care, "Aye, tis possible. Is not Arianna Hymereodraeth but
not a pair of hours or so away from your own home of Struan? Should ye need take tha' place, it is not uncommon for you to reside in both places, and when you arise to be the Chieftain ye may elect a tanist to be available when you are nay, thus fufilling all of your oaths. Eirian, too, has agreed to move between her estate in the valley and your clan's castle, if need be, so you
are well instructed in all ye'd need for your role. Adam n' I be somethin' of political idiot savants. Ye will benefit m'thinks from as much formal education one can get as much as watchin' the affairs of the valley, the castle 'ere, n' any other place ye duty takes ye towards. Will this appease ye? I know tha' ye are close to Eirian." she put hand outward toward the Welsh woman, "She is equal in fondness and a familial love for ye as well."
Caden: He mulled over her words carefully, giving as much thought to his words as she had, " Aye, tha' works. My oath tae the two of ye and tae Skye comes first, I will nae abandon tha' ever. " He offered a dimpled smile to them both
then glanced to Eirian. " She is much like a sister tae me. Closer tae me then m'own Da most times." The man he called father did not understand Caden's lust for knowlege and learning, did not understand his thirst to learn to us his sword and become one of the top amongst the trainees, and yet Eirian had understood and accepted him for who he was, and helped him
to find his path to who he would become in the future.
Bethag: So this was the same smiling, gangly young man with a bit to prove that crossed up the courtyard steps? "Ye impress me," she smiled "If she is like a sister to ye, Caden, then in my suggestion, such thing should be drawn up into
writing should it nay?"
Eirian: Eirian felt pride mingled with an unshakeable devotion to the young man who had unequivocaly come to bind himself with her in knowledge and a familial love. Holding fast to his hand she looked at the Duchess while the idea was being said. Commit their bond to writing? "Why would one do such, what do you think of such Caden?"
Caden: To state their bond in writing. That was strange, he had heard of families doing such when adopting a child into their family so the parents can lay legal claim to them but to that of two who think of themselves as brother and sister? He mulled it over for a moment. " Tis nae a neccissary thing tha' needs tae be done, we know in our hearts tha' it is
sae, but tae cement it in writing would be an honor. " He said softly gently squeezing Eriains hand.
Eirian: "If he would wish such a thing I would nay deny it, not for all the world. It is an honor," She smiled softly though looked to her Duchess with a confusion that was prominent, "Though might it be asked, Your Grace, why make such a thing of the heart a matter of document? We share no blood nor would such thing matter to any save us...would it?"
Bethag: Beathag could only smile as she offered a little silver lining to this tale, " Master Robertson? Lady Eirian of Arianna Hymerodraeth is a cousin of yers, her grandmother had four sisters, two passed, one wed a Robertson when she was still quite young these many years agae, sae ye are both relatives by way o' marriage..or so the ledger o' heritage sent up from ye own homeland tells us Eirian when it was looked intae..so. To have it drawn up ye are both adopting one another as siblings, affords ye a protection, a permanence in your posistion by Eirian with us in writ, and a very powerful
alliance to support ye claim...." The look on the Artisan's face!
Caden: His blue eyes widened in surprise as well as he glanced first to Bess then to Eirian. The look on his mentor's face was priceless and it nearly struck him so much to bring him out of his stupor enough to laugh, almost, not quite.
He glanced to Bess. " In turn this cements Clan Robertson's alliance tae the Griffin as well. Nae tha' they would ever turn
from it. The clan gave their word, tis as good as gold. Bu' still it
strengthens it. " He smiled a bit and suddenly wished he had thought to change before coming here so he could hug Eirian without fear of getting her dirty from his day's work.
Bethag: "Tis as good as gold e'en without all of this, but ye've been their representative in a sense here, and now ye are for certain just tha'. Now it is known ye are both o' relation somehow, it gives quite a new dimension 'pon things doesn't it nay? Now ye may take perfectly fine care Master
Caden o' ye sister n' your niece?" She stood up and walked about the room, "Or your cousins, how e'er ye'd prefer it written."
Caden: He looked to Eirian and asked her softly. " How would ye prefere it written." she was the one with the foresight, perhaps she would know which would be better written then he. At the mention of his niece he glanced to her belly and smiled finally giving into the urge and placed his hand
on her belly in hopes of feeling the babe move.
Eirian: "Let us state it as it is..cousins. For to put siblings might draw challenge to near to my cousin for his posistion," A cousin! She had no siblings, nor any living relations save one Uncle. That her Grandmother's blood had at last been giving to something good!
Caden: He grinned in agreement. " Cousins then." he nodded affirmative, rubbing her belly one last time in hopes of feeling Hope move before letting it slide away then frowning at himself at the dirt trail his hand had left behind. " I am sorry Eirian, I will remember next time to change and wash up before coming to a meeting."
Bethag: Caden Robertson was a topic of discussion, one the Duchess wanted to know as much as possible regarding. What about his skills, weakness? How had he done at all of his tasks? Like Caden, Beathag had
