"Mama, we don't want to leave!"
"We like it here!"
Simultaneous voices of complaint came to Chantal's ears as she stared into the mutinous faces of her children. They would not understand the reasoning behind wanting to leave her beloved Skye. She had not told them of the hideous circumstances of her sisters' murder or that of the children. To them it'd been labeled as a tragic accident, a fire, and naught more. Yet all the months in hiding and the paranoia had eventually won out, and Chantal acknowledged that they'd be far safer away from this land. Thanks to friends and contacts here, a mysterious lady especially, she now had a secure place to take her children.
They were off to Egypt again, to live in familiar surroundings, and Chantal hoped that there all this would eventually be put in the past. Isadora was held securely in her arms once she climbed into the carriage where William, Synnovea, and Haji already sat. They'd all said farewell to family here in the passing month, but still tears lingered in their youthful gazes.
"Eventually we will return, children. We are needed elsewhere." She was to take up a position of governess to a wealthy family in Egypt and that was that. It was a good cover and would keep them safe.
Chantal would not miss the wealth acquired with Mikhail's death. The possibilities of title or status were nothing in comparison to protecting her family. Or to love- which she felt she would never experience again with the death of her beloved. Perhaps though there was a chance for all to change on this new adventure.
So, in the quiet of the night, a carriage carting the Rose family passed out of Skye and its history. For now...
