Night had come quickly and quietly in the valley, and as any day where the sounds of children filled the air with their laughter he felt more at home then ever. With Eirian away, and little Hope filling their days with brightness Maahes had never felt himself more at peace. Ra was growing so quickly, faster then he wished, and with the gaggle of laughter passed back and forth—He wondered if they understood one another. Did she understand his babble? The Beast wished he did, as he would love to know what they thought of the growing world around them. What was so funny about the ceiling that made his son so happy. Was there an angel over his shoulder, or was he simply happy to be held. When the time had come for all to depart, Maahes was left on his own. Waiting for his wife as always on their porch, and thankful for another day spent in peace.
Thoughts traveled over the night to the distant road that lead to the castle. He wondered of the royals, and their events. It had been a long time since he had last spoke with the Duke, or even Bess. What had kept them so busy?
