Agnes had taken her son out into the fields as she stole in deep breaths of the sweet air as the boy seemed excited as he bounced about, the small legs pushing him further and farther ahead while at times tripping over the wooden shield and sword given to him by Gabriel.
She hadn't exactly approved of the gifts, but it was far too late to tell the boy no, when the gentleman had already given them to him. With oaths and promises of minding his manners, Daniel was still a six year old boy. Agnes had worn simply garb, as she moved forward to take the boy in hand.
" Well then if you are going to have these things it is likely best you knew a little about them. " She offered softly, waving her hand for him to come a bit closer to her. " Hold them up.. lets have a look at you. "She stated while her gaze took in the sight of him. Perhaps it was a mother's fear that spied still the little boy's father in that stance as she looked away.
This simply may not be a good idea! The boy was grinning from ear to ear as he watched her. "I'm going to be da greatest o' em Momma."he declared as he struck a pose that he had seen in a story book she had given him during the last Christmas. The sight of a boy so small and spindley doing so brought a light hearted chuckle from him. Though her eyes kept her concern well guarded and hidden from him.
" Somehow , my little man, I do not doubt that. " She stated as her hand slipped over the sandy brown hair. the thumb took a moment to wipe a small smudge away from his cheek. The boy pulled away .. " Aww.. Mum.. " he grumbled as she chuckled yet again.
"oh alright I'll stop.. "she lifted her hand to fend off any other complaints. " Now then let me see you hold them again. "She instructed as the boy stood back a few paces and put on his "war" face. It didn't help at all that it simply made him look constipated. The snicker was swallowed as she frowned slightly to him. " that is a terrible face.. I'm sure your enemies will run in fear. " She gave a nod before stepping behind him.
" Now then, if you slip your hand in a bit further here.. yes thats it. It will allow you better control of the shield. See? " She asked as she guided his arm forward, up and down. The boy looked up at her then began to move his arm. The sudden quirky grin appeared on his face as he swung the small wooden sword about. " Take that! " He declared and run off a ways to defeat the enemies of his imagination... though inwardly Agnes could only feel sorry for the poor plants he was beating on.
She laughed softly while watching him as she found herself a place to sit and observe the boy. She had agreed to go with the Lady Katrina , as the woman offered a place of residence. Which was sorely needed for both she and her son. And Agnes could offer her services there be it working in the kitchens or helping with.. whatever the Lady had in mind. So long as it was honest work, Agnes had no quarrel with it. <
