Bess: If seasons are apt to pass because this is what nature intends, then it stands to reason that on matter how much we watch the sun or do not watch it, no mater how much we mind the passage of an hour or give it no heed, things are part to change. So it was Summer once more on the Isle, with a day warm enough that nary a cloud was in the sky. The sea was calm, the wind was sweet with the scent of grass. Amidst the tall, dancing stuff of the fields could be found the generations of royalty a'laying. The present: A thick, long braid of golden promise dallied beyond naked shoulders as a former worker's grasp reached out, soft and mended, to the faces of her children.
all of them were laughing with the changeling woman in the high summer. The future - be it golden curls and sea green eyes, or emeralds and the dark ebony of another land's memory, the children were enothing but children. Neither prince nor princess. Not inherant of anything save glee and wonder. Despite the uncertainy of past times and the work of the present days, Skye had finally come into her own. Skye knew peace. And the heart of that peace was now laughing in the fields (d)
Katerina** The promise of the wonderful summer day is what had drawn the young woman to walk in the fields. So many changes having occurred and more to come for her Katerina took each day as it came and never for granted. She had a hand full of wildflowers she had been picking along her walk. Lost in her thoughts she did not notice the family of royals were also here enjoying the kiss of sunshine. Would her kin and clan accept her? Or would she be alone in a strange land? It was questions just like these that kept her awake at night but she could make it... she had to.**
Bess/Aodhan: "Wot did ye get there Aodhan, oooh did ye find a crawly now, let's have a look..Aye tis a fine one.." Aodhan proudly showcased his beetle by plopping it down into his mother's hands. Davina, for her part, reached up for the shiny, round, thing as if it were a trinket for her to practice grabbing at. Trying, and failing, alas, she huffed her discontent and squiggled until she rolled over onto her belly, kicking her little legs in triumph "Why dun ye find another n' put 'em bout taegether sae he has a friend here abouts?" Questions of acceptance were many once in her life, worrying for not one clan but several, and country, if not the known world. But the glory of acceptance is that it starts with self first. Aodhan would be the first to prove he was quite content with his presence, dust ridden as it was, though he didn't mean to bump head long into Katerina. "Och, sorra m'lady!" He straightened up, brushed at her dress, and proved to be rather tall for his age! (d)
Katerina: ** Mid thought about seeking guidance from God someone had bumped into her and she looked down at the young boy and smiled " No need to apologize no harm done.... young master." her voice was soft and laced thickly with her accent it would be obvious to anyone that she was English.. yet her words carried the faintest Scots brogue. "What are you doing out here?" she asked looking about to see if his family were close by.**
Aodhan: Prayers are easily interrupted by sweet, clumsy little boys! Aodhan had a habit of appearing at just the right moment, sweetning the appearance with a grin as he looked up through a few strands of loose dark curls. "It be polite, m'lady," he interjected. Looking down to see if a second prized bug was present just left of her slipper, at the next question he lookd up and to her eyes as a good boy ought, "Lookin for crawlies n' showin' them to Momma, she's over that way, with me baby sister." He obliged further with a location shown on the tip of his outstretched arm, but then again even laying down, Beathag cut quite a long figure in green grass.(d)
Katerina: ** Kat laughed softly at him " You are indeed very polite." she said smiling brightly at him and then looked to where he indicated his mom to be. " Crawlies hmmm sounds like fun." Kat's eyes instantly went to the woman who was lyin
StrengthofaLady: down and siled once more seeing it was the Duchess herself out here with her young family. " I am going to say hello to your mom, and be careful ok." and walked toward Bess. " Good day your Grace." she said as she approached with a
StrengthofaLady: wave and smile. Once she was close she dipped into a brief curtsey.**
Bess/Aodhan: "Och, it is good fun! Mum can find ones too but she is playin' with Davina, because she's too young to find crawlies." The young princess had mastered rolling, but the elusive mechanics of crawling were still several weeks away.
With Aodhan's mobility, who needed two that could get into trouble? When Aodhan took longer than usual, she saw that he was holding court across the distance only for his petitioner to come forward to herself. "Good day, M'lady. How fare ye, please, come sit, n' ye needn't call me yer Grace, though o' late tis the least formal thing I've heard!" Mo'r Ouksela was long, wasn't it? Goodness went farther than rank. "Wot brings ye out taeday?" (d)
Katerina: ** Katerina nodded and smiled to Bess and chukcled softly watching the young babe wriggle about so intent and yet going nowhere " Thank you M'Lady I would be delighted." kat said sitting down. She could not help to use a title of some sort when speaking to Bess. " I came out today to make sense and peace of all that has happened. As well as wonder how I will be received by my MacKinnon kin and Clan?" her fear was evident in her tone. Kat was not sure she was the right one to sit in the chair of Laird but it was her birthright. She had no allies here no one to help if a battle came about. " You came here to spend the day with kin not listen to the ramblings of me."**
Bess: The elder soul corrected the younger with a cluck of tongue," M'children are with me all day these days," she beamed and leaned over as if to whisper lest the grass betray their confidence, "N' until ye've sat down with the lairds
n' nobles n' blue castle nay one knows the meanin' o' ramblin, sae ye arent." Her story spoke of worry about the inevitable but fast approaching unknown. What of birthright would guarantee her alliegance, confidence, or acceptance? "Ah would've thought ye would 'ave met ye kin by now. Ye've been here a time, but such things would keep meh from 'em too. If Ah had my way those first days in reign Ah may ne'er have come out o' the Griffin halls at all! But, the truth is neither birth, writ, or good introduction will give ye a good reception. Oh they help make claims, yes, but they dun make grand leaders. They give those who have the heritage somethin' tae look up tae n' those around it somethin tae admire or loathe, for that matter. What makes acceptance is action., n' wot leads those actions." (d)
Katerina: ** Kat sat and listened to Bess for her words were wiser than any she had heard up til now except ehr aprents of course. The mention of Lairds and nobles made her laugh softly" I know you are correct Lady and that nothing I do or
say will make things easier for them. I fear the one who wants me dead most of all. I fnot for that threat I think I would have gone to my kin by now." she smiled as the boy ran past chasing a flying bug. She wish she had more confidance in herself than she did and shse was trying and making great effforts at it.**
Bess: "With any power, there is always someone tae want it, someone who wants ye dead. But ye will be dead much sooner, my girl, if ye live in fear." It was an odd counsel to hold amidst bug chases and the cooing baby girl she plucked up to rest her belly on her legs, but Davina seemed content with her new world view. "Livin in fear, worryin o' each move. Tha's a victory for this one already. Wot ye must dae is announce yourself, cultivate loyal guards, n' do wot ye set out here tae dae.." (d)
Katerina: ** It was odd indeed this talk but it made a world of difference for Kat. " you are very right. so you think i should just go to them.Loyal Guards?? The only person who would have been that was Georyn and he was called back to
France... I do not know anyone else here really."**
Bess: "Ye 'ave the backin' o' the Mo'r Triath and Mo'r Ouksela dun ye nay?" She arched her brow with a wry grin as she played the part of mother and ruler in the same hand, and quite well no less! "surely a proper summer introduction n' gaein about as a lass yer age should, Ah'm certain ye'll find wot ye are lookin' for." (d)
Katerina: ** Bess made it look easy to be both ruler and motherat once and it made Kat miss her own mother. " I am honored for your backing Lady.. and a summer introduction would be good." she watched the baby girl giggle and coo at a
butterfly that was just out of ehr reach. " I am not sure what I am looking for your Grace... I juts want to be happy.. you know?" **
Bess: "Who does nay want tae be, my dear? We are nothin' iffn we can find no joy. Sae ye must also find way to do it with joy, n' there is.." Davina didn't catch the elusive slip of a creature but found a good substitue in one of her own small hair ribbons and a strand of mother's hair, a bit of flower petal too! "Obligation n' want are two different things. M'dear wot
have ye been daein here? Dun wait long tae find way tae make happiness. Nay suitor nor wealth nor bein' will make it fer ye unless ye begin it yerself, Ah promise ye tha'. They only complete pieces o' a picture we didn' tknow had anythin' missin' tae begin with." The girl needed companionship, guidance, and hope. She was green, yes, but unintelligent no. (d)
Katerina: ** Katerina knew Bess was rihgt and it showed instantly as she knew what she had to do " M'Lady I agree with you and though it took this talk to help me see clearly what I need to do... I ask one favor though... do you know if there
StrengthofaLady: is anyone who would be willing to escort me to MacKinnon lands?" she was being honest for she knew she could nto travel there on her own and who better to ask than the one person who seemed to know everyone.**
Bess: "O'course...Laird Campbell lives out in the countryside now n' makes rounds often, ah'm certain he shan't mind the duty o' escortin ye hence iffn ah ask him. M'thinks he will be in Turas Lan perhaps within a pair o' days. Can ye wait till then?" (d)
Katerina: ** Katerina smiled " I can indeed and thank you...I have waited this long so a few days more will not hurt." she was all but jumpimng up and down with joy as she ws about to head for her destiny and claim it with both hands.**
Bess: "Nay, it shan't, n' will give ye a few more tae think on yer posistion aye? But for the time bein' Ah'd say think on it a little less." She leaned back until she lay against the earth with Davina atop her chest, chewing on her bawled fist before cooing in delight that she'd found them in the first place. Aodhan came flouncing back over so that soon she had two such children upon her chest. "Nothin' was e'er built in a day." (d)
Katerina: ** What a picture this scene made... the Duchess and her children aughing and taking time to just be together. One day if she were ;lucky it may be her here in a simliar scene with ehr family. Right now one thing at a time... she smiled at Bess. " I will try not to think so much on it but it is hard not to... I am to many to young to rule yet to old not to be married." she chuckled. **
Bess: "Mm now tha' is nay sae, only now ye have prudent choice in such things. When Ah was young, Ah was fifteen when first e'r married n' widowed somewhere short afore twenty, but twas the way o' the times. There were lasses younger who wed aye, thirteen, n' fourteen, but some thought tha' fifteen was the prime age ah suppose. Youth comes about only once though." She passed Katerina a scottish blue bell. (d)
Katerina: ** Kat took the flower and smiled " My mother used to say that I could choose who I married for she and my father had done that." she smelled the flower" I am afraid I will not know it when love calls on me... so many other things stand before me." Love would come and then again it may not but Kat knew she would be fine either way for she was strong.**
Bess: "There shall always be place for love but it must come when ye hunt fer it nay, in unexpected ways. Ahdam n' I chose one another without knowin we were tae be intended once. Ah married on arrangement but had tae give huzzah tae it
first. But ye m'dear as as lovely as this flower, time will be kind tae ye n' marvelous good." (d)
Katerina: ** Bess's words made her blush for she did not see herself as others did. A few had said she was pretty but not in her eyes she was not.... she was fair bt tht was it "I will heed your words Lady and I will remember to not look to hard for things I do not see right away."**
