There had a good amount of healing done all around, and for the first time in weeks Maahes woke up with a clear mind. Last night he did not need the special potion from Ada, but simply the loving arms of his wife. She held him so tight, tight enough he could not return to the favor, and for an instant he worried she was afraid he’d leave again. However, when she smiled in her sleep and he was able to turn to face her he would put that fear aside by curling his arm around her hips. For a good long time he pretended to be asleep, letting her fool herself he was out, so that he could then watch her just as she had watched him for weeks. It was Ealora’s turn to have the shadows under her eyes disappear, and the lines around her face smooth. Only smiles were aloud now. Only happy warm thoughts of forever as peace had finally come to the Beast, and he would be working hard to restore it to her.
Maahes would nuzzle her face, bury his nose into the bend in her neck, and inhale her sweet scent as it lulled him to sleep. However, as the sun rose in the morning sky he would wake far earlier then one should. He woke even before their son which was a strange matter. Yet, as he rose from the bed his body gave a cry not to leave her, but he had settled his mind earlier in the night he would surprise her.
One of the many things she knew very little of her husband was that he could cook. In fact the many months working at the Briar Rose had done him well to refresh his mind from his days in Avaria. Food was scarce, a cook was never kept, and he had a son whose stomach was a bottomless pit. In Egypt all you would need was 3 eggs, a block of cheese tomatoes and cucumbers, and you would be set for weeks. The vegetables were diced by a blade, that had been cleaned, but as well had killed many men. The eggs were beat together and fried over the still burning coals from dinner. Along with the cheese the ingredients cooked up a revenue of attention, as now Nora moved in behind him to help, but of course he refused.
“Go sleep in, there will be enough, for everyone.” He would only have to say one time, and the keeper was gladly returning to her room. Maahes would then empty the contents upon a plate, cover them in seasoned olive oil and place wedges of the tomatoes along the side. It wouldn’t look like much, but it was a fond recipe from his homelands. One he would enjoy watching his wife devour.
With a cup of warm tea, spiced with sage and mint he would return to their room stopping only to pluck a flower from one of the vases Eppie had placed through the house of her now blooming flowers. He loved this wife of his, even though sometimems she would have a hard time seeing it through all the brash words, and battles. Placing the tray down upon the edge of the bed he would climb back to where he had once been, the bed still warm from his heated flesh.
“Habibi..” His voice started in a purr against her ear, as he kissed her neck, “Wake up to me hmm?”
