Kaori: After hours spent in her office working on the floor as her desk was to cluttered to be of use, Kaori severely needed to stretch her legs. In the halls, she found a few of the scholars going over some of the more menial tasks, and Kaori approached one of them to snag a book request from his hand. "Go on with you and find another task to complete." The younger man blanched before saying, "But Lady Hotaro... This is not a task for your position!" Kaori laughed and crinkled her nose. "I insist. I'd much rather work on something less pressing before going mad." The young man looked uncertain, but dared not question the High Scholar's decision. And that was how Kaori found herself on horseback an hour later with a few easily found books from a request sent in by Georyn de Lorme. Once dismounting and tethered Vash, Kaori entered the Briar Rose Inn and quickly located the room he was supposedly staying in. Lowering the hood of her cloak, she knocked on the door and started to loosen the laces of her leather riding gloves. (d)
Georyn: .Grey eyes were not focused on anything that was in front of him. Georyn had just recently gotten out of the Infirmary, the side effects of his wound now more apparent. His arm was healed but now he could no longer feel his thumb. The healers had told him this was to be expected, the poison had been unknown indeed and he did not even know what it was that ailed him himself. But now that he was better he was getting back into his old habits. He was moving around more, as much as he could have considering the Par circumstances. He hadn't had much to do besides getting a room at the Birar Rose. He wouldn't have lingered here in Turas Lan for long it seemed, but other things were keeping him here. He didn't wish to stay in one place for long...what if those who were coming after him found him here? It always seemed his past was catching up with him so he'd make the time to finally make use of his own time he had left. He had requested an order for books, he had his own things to take care of and he greatly missed the feel of pages in his hands. It was one of the things he loved most so finally when the person with the order had shown up, he was a little, well, giddy. "You may enter." He was still sitting on a chair, quill in hand as he hastily was scribbling something on parchment. His accent was heavily french, but it didn't bother him. He looked up to see just who had entered.
Kaori: And in stepped Kaori, the oddity amongst Scots or so she had recently been dubbed. Her eyes cast around the room before settling on the handsome man at his desk. She curtsied and quietly said, "Master de Lorme, I presume?" Opening the satchel at her side, she pulled out his list and smiled. "I'm Kaori Hotaro, I'm here from the Scholar's Hall. I have four of the titles you requested, the others will take a little more time to locate. I hope these will keep you busy until I can procure the others?" she cokeed her head to the side as brown, almond-shaped eyes regarded him. Inwardly she had to grin. Gray eyes? She found it an intriguing trait, one that was uncommon. His eyes reminded her of storm clouds. That wasn't such a bad thing, however. Kaori rather liked the rain. (d)
Georyn: Georyn was still scribbling away when the woman entered. He looked up from his desk now. He had been penning a note to his father, reminding him that he was fine and to take no due course action in pursuing him. The Marquis de Lorme was certainly unpleased with his second son for running like he had but he could not keep that from happening. Georyn knew his faults and it was better that he was far away from France. And those were the books that he had requested something to read procuring law. He did not know how long it would have taken to get the titles he wished, but it was certainly fast. “Yes, I am.” He added with a nod. He rarely smiled, but this woman was certainly different looking. Kaori. A woman from the east, this shall be the first time I have set eyes upon something exotic.” He added, hoping he was not being too blunt. “I thank you and please just Georyn. I fear my full name is too much for any one person to handle.” He added with a slight laugh, he was slowly returning to normal but he wasn’t sure why. Was something affecting him so?
Kaori: Kaori was not at all perturbed by the way people looked at her upon first blush. He referred to her as exotic, and that was not an unfamiliar term to her either. It was rare, however, that someone was so bold as to say it to her face, but that didn't bother her. She liked people who spoke their mind as she had a tendency to do so herself. She actually laughed at his words, holding up her arms as if presenting herself. Her features were indeed eastern, but her attire was decidedly western. That day she was dressed closer to that of the gentry, though if one took the time to observe the material and making of the cloak and gown, it would be easy to see that they were very well tailored. "I do hope its not a disappointment," she said easily before putting the list back and starting to pull the books out for him. "And Georyn it shall be, but worry not. Frainces is not entirely unfamiliar to me, Monsieur." And truly, she had actually spoken his name rather well. Odder still, her voice seemed to lack any hint of an eastern accent. It sounded almost English, cultured. She approached the desk and started to stack the books for him. "Since we're now on a first name basis, I find myself compelled to say that you obviously weren't looking for light reading." (d)
Georyn:Georyn raised a brow at her, curious indeed. He had seen dark features on a woman before, such as that of those at the French court but he had never seen an eastern person before. His life was not secluded in the least bit when he had been growing up as the child of a Marquis and he had read about the east but had never been there. Few of the French court itself had been there. “Well you are quite the flower indeed. If my brother were here I can assure you his words would not be as nice as mine have been.” He added with a chuckle before she began stacking the books on the desk. “France is not as different as you would think, lady, but I do miss it so. I have been away from my home far to long but other things are keeping me here. You would know that I presume.” He added and then watched her still. Yes, he was most certainly not a light reader. “Yes. I am not quite educated in that of the law as well as most others…which is why I requested those books. I have a passion for the written word, much to my father’s dismay and my mother’s delight.” He added with a nod. “I would have become a recorder, or a historer, but as a second son must take up the sword.”
Kaori:She listened with some interest, chuckling and nodding her agreement. No matter how different the reasons may be, it had seemed many different types of people had chosen to remain within Skye. The land simply seemed to herald people, and once finding themselves among the beauty of the realm, it was near impossible to ever want to leave. "Ah, that I know all too well. There is never a happy median between what a mother and father would have for their children. One is always bound to be dreadfully disappointed." It was the following statement that surprised her however. "Is it the second son's responsibility to take up the sword? Why is that?" In truth, Kaori wished she had more occasions to take up arms, but it was not in her plan. (d)
Georyn:Georyn only nodded in agreement. His parents were very different people, both of them and through the years they were always fair and just with their children, but his older brother had gotten most of the praise. “Yes, for the son of a Marquis.” He added with a slight annoyance of the title. He did not care for being a noble in fact, he would have been much happier working the land than he would have been serving a king and marrying a lady and going off to war. “My brother is the heir, that leaves me with serving my liege lord, the King of France. I am a knight by trade, but it hasn’t been my calling since…” He trailed off, not wishing to finish the statement. “It was the sword that led me to Skye, and ultimately Scottland. That and God has willed a friend for me to cross my path once more. I fear that is what keeps me here, duty, but I do also wish to stay. It is why I must read the law- there ought to be something of use to me in there.” He added, speaking of something that could help him.
Kaori:She listened with some interest. So things weren't so very different from culture to culture. Unfortunately, there had been no heir for Kaori's father, and once he had passed away, Kaori was nothing but the Hotaro Child. Different circumstances, leading so many to Skye. It was the words he used, however, when speaking of the books that seriously piqued her curiosity. "Of use in what respects?" Was she out of place in asking? Perhaps she was, but the way she saw the situation, she was entitled to the question as these books were her responsibility to an extent. She really didn't mean to be taking up so much of his time, but every word seemed to lead Kaori into another question. That was part of what made her a damned efficient scholar. She had an insatiable curiosity, and while it sometimes led her to speak out of turn, it also got her answers more "polite" people would never have. (d)
Georyn:Georyn stiffened slightly, speaking of his home life. He loved his family dearly but they were all too interested in what he was doing and it irritated him to no end. He was stubborn and slowly refused to let them know anything of what he was up to. “Let me say I have done something I regret is all. I wish I could take it back but I cannot.” He added, not wishing to discuss the matter further. It pained him and he did not wish to dwell on it anymore than he would have to. “That is why I wish to read upon law. To see all that I can do.” He added. He did not know what was in store for him. “Due to recent circumstances, I may not be of use with the sword anymore, another thing that is bound to make my father unhappy. But let us not dwell on that of sadness, it is not something I wish to discern.” Georyn was being humble again. “You are a scholar are you not Lady Kaori? Does not your skills bring you passion in life? That is what I wish to achieve.”
Kaori:Kaori bit her lip at his question. He was obviously changing the subject, directing it away from one that brought him pain. She felt bad, and inwardly cursed herself for being too damned inquisitive. Deciding to let the subject be changed, she shrugged. "I am a scholar, but that is not what brings me passion. The passion comes from being able to take what knowledge I have, and passing it on to others. If I couldn't do that, then my knowledge would be for nothing. I can take what I know and use it to provide more options to the children I teach. I can ensure my own children will not be held back due to ignorance. As long as I have a skill that could be of use, be it the baker that feeds families, the weaponsmith who provides the tools that protect us, or the scholar that can spread knowledge... then yes, I can say I have found passion." Realizing she had been rambling, she grinned a bit sheepishly. "Then again, everyone finds passion in different places. You just need to figure out where yours is." She sighed before pulling out her gloves. "Well, I beg your forgiveness, but I must be returning to my work. I'll make sure to have the remaining books to you within a week. It was a pleasure to meet you, Georyn. Konbanwa, and au revoir." She curtsied to him, that smile of hers ever present. (D)
Georyn:Georyn nodded in agreement still, his arms crossing across his chest. He was by no means sure about his past, he had spent far too much time running from it and was just now starting to uncover the faults of his own. Too long had he spent on the run in fear and now, he could no longer run. Where would he go? He had those that needed him here and now he was wounded for saving a life but that did not bother him. He was a knight, sworn to protect those and he did not mind it but it was not what his heart called him too. He chuckled at Kaori’s long intervent and finally found himself smiling for once. “I will find mine I presume. I have always longed to inspire those with words, writings, teachings. There is nothing better than what the imagination can take you, but always my own path was carved by the sword but now that I have been wounded, I shall find something else to do with my time it seems. We are curious creatures, mortals.” He added. “It was nice to meet you too, Lady Kaori.” He bowed as she curtsied. Yes, one could never forget their manners now could they?
Kaori: With that Kaori left his room, closing the door behind her as she headed down to get back to Vash. If one thing was certain, Monsieur de Lorme was an interesting man. Considering what his passion had once been, she found herself wondering if he'd be interested in joining the ranks of the scholars. She'd have to do her best to find out... (d)
